Salem Solar Selebration 2017

Salem Solar Selebration 2017 Enjoy a fabulous breakfast, wine/beer, music AND A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE in a beautiful setting! The moon will cover the sun entirely.

This will be the first total eclipse of the sun visible on the U.S. mainland since 1979 and the first to sweep across the entire country since 1918. People within the path of totality (Salem, Oregon!) will witness a total solar eclipse. The sky will become twilight, the air will cool, the stars will appear, and the black disc of the moon will be surrounded by the pale, streaming halo of the sun’s

corona. Totality will last for about two minutes. For some, it will be the spectacle of a lifetime. Enjoy this rare celestial event on Monday morning, August 21, 2017, from 8:30am – 12:30pm on the grounds of the Chemeketa-Eola Northwest Wine Studies Center, 215 Doaks Ferry Road NW, Salem, Oregon. There will be a buffet breakfast/brunch, live music (Ty Curtis!), wine/beer/mimosas (available for purchase) and a spectacular view of the Willamette Valley and coast range. You'll even get a pair of specially designed eclipse viewing glasses so you don't burn out your eyeballs! This is a family-friendly event. ADVANCE TICKETS AND RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. (Liking the page and/or event does not count.) Ticket prices: TBD

Admission includes:

• Breakfast/brunch
• Wine/beer/mimosas available to purchase.
• Eclipse viewing safety glasses
• Live music (Ty Curtis!)
• Corn hole! BIG checkers!
• Access to a walking trail around the facility/vineyards.

On January 31 (tomorrow!), the world will be treated to a perigee blue moon total lunar eclipse. The last time there was a celestial alignment of these three things was in 1982. But this is definitely the first time anyone has called it a super blue blood moon.

In North America, you'll need to be in the west to see the total lunar eclipse, which happens to coincide with a supermoon and a blue moon.

Wow! Just WOW!

You can try to describe what it looks like, but it’s impossible to describe what It FEELS like!

There were gasps, cheers and tears. There was even a marriage proposal!

Thanks to all who helped, supported, and participated! Meagan, Ashlee and Ashlee’s littles were the perfect, always cheerful and helpful team greeting everyone at the door. Bryan, Brandon and Andrew were available to handle any parking challenges. (I understand there were none, but just in case.) Suzen and the crew at the Chemeketa Event Services at Eola ensured a comfortable and tasty experience. Jewelia and Julianne’s music was like the ribbon and bow on an extraordinary morning.

And special thanks to the two hundred and forty people – family, friends and strangers from all over the world – who bonded on an Eola hillside to share what was for most, a once in a lifetime, absolutely unforgettable experience!

"When I think of the solar system and the objects in orbit on their paths, I think of them as pirouetting dancers in a cosmic ballet, choreographed by the forces of gravity. And so, knowing this as an astrophysicist, to recognize that occasionally things line up in ways that are uncommon or unusual either in your life experience or for the earth itself — to deny yourself of that opportunity would be to not live as full of a life as you could have experiencing the natural world around you."

~Neil deGrasse Tyson

On August 21, 2017, the moon's shadow will race from Oregon to South Carolina in what some consider to be the most awe-inspiring spectacle in all of nature: a total solar eclipse. Umbraphile David Baron chases these rare events across the globe, and in this ode to the bliss of seeing the solar coron...

There are several sites along the Path of Totality where teams will launch high altitude balloons for your eclipse viewing pleasure. If the Internet doesn't break on that day, we hope to have a couple of different screens displaying their live stream of the eclipse at our event. If you're not attending our event, you can find the launch/streaming locations here...
