Jose and Alma Salinas are the proud founders of Pepe's Barbacoa #1, a family business that has become a beloved tradition in San Antonio's Southeast community. Since opening their doors in 1989, they have dedicated themselves to serving customers with the same warmth, kindness, and commitment that first inspired them to start their business.
Anyone who knows Mr. and Mrs. Salinas will tell you they are among the most loving, humble, and genuine people you could ever meet. Over the years, they have built more than a successful business—they have built lasting friendships and relationships throughout the community they proudly serve every weekend.
In 1999, Don Pepe helped guide and support his oldest son, The Pep, in opening his molino on Bandera Road. Thanks to hard work, dedication, and the family values passed down from generation to generation, the Bandera location has continued to thrive for 27 years.
Today, the original Presa Street location remains a true family operation. Visitors are welcomed by Don Jose and Alma, while their son Mando, granddaughter Aleksa, and grandson Alex work hard to ensure every customer is greeted and served with a smile.
At the Bandera Road location, The Pep is joined by his wife of 23 years, their 18-year-old twins, and their 26-year-old son, continuing the family's tradition of working side by side and serving the community together.
The Pepe's family legacy extends even further with another location on WW White Road, where customers are welcomed by Tio Javier, Don Pepe's brother, and Tia Yolanda, who proudly continue the family's commitment to quality food and outstanding service.
For the Salinas family, Pepe's Barbacoa has always been about more than serving great food—it's about family, tradition, community, and treating every customer like part of the family. After more than three decades, that commitment remains stronger than ever.
At Pepe's Barbacoa, it truly is a family tradition. ❤️🌮🏆
