in 1988 Al Nashashibi added to the art of food another cultural dimension by sharing his art work with the patrons to Fairouz and became known as Fairouz restaurant and gallery

My Mother Is Still Alive

They say, “Our condolences.
Your mother has passed away.”
I wonder—where?
We pray to heaven.
But I don’t understand.
She is still alive.
Her DNA grows in my bones,
and my memory carries
seventy-four years
of closeness, longing, and love.
How can I believe she is gone?
I close my eyes—
and there she is,
alive in the lenses
of my imagination.
The energy of her soul
still runs through my being.
She is my mother,
who will not die.
And I am still alive.
