Saturday night! Such Sweet Ruckus roped in Josh and Rozanne for an evening of harmonies, banjos and storytelling through song. Expectation some crows 🐦‍⬛, murder ballads, a little whimsey, 🪕Sisyphus and a collection of introverts’ delights. George has also assigned us some public domain songs so come sing along!

Last Writer Salon before the summer break kicks in … the zines are zined, the biffles are biffling, before long Peter Kline will stride in, readers will test their microphones and choice seats will be snagged. A little white wine, a little tea …the cafe book collection will grow, friends will be made, and a few poems will find new minds to live in, long after this June Sunday has set.

This last month has felt more like a country song than original folk. The espresso machine broke down and took 30% of our sales with it. Electric and water works. Staff getting sick. Josh’s longest day clocked in at 22 hours (no joke, 6am to 4am). Saying goodbye to our beloved Ambie (who will get a proper tribute later). Through all of it, when we sit on the floor in the kitchen before bed and wonder, how are we still doing this, the thing that shines is: you. Josh will tell me about regulars who sit in the garden as they navigate their lives. He’ll reiterate his mission and how much it all means. Beautiful music and art. Open mic. Cafe friends who keep showing up and supporting, your appreciation for the kitchen wizardry. This is a season. Fingers crossed, at some point we’ll serve fully, the way we love to again. Thank you for standing by us 🩵🦋🩵

Happy Mother’s Day to all that celebrate! We’re going to take a little more of the afternoon to hang out with our moms!

When you start peeling the onion (or electrical wires) of a 100+ year old building, you run into all sorts of surprises. We’re hoping some of our small fixes will calm Fill, our trusty dishwasher. Can we tame the chaos before opening mic?! We’ll try our darndest!! Note: no espresso yet, still much work before we can put the new-old machine into service, but at least there will be music!! 🎵

Found something shiny online, a used machine from Burlingame that was available immediately. Josh’s papa happens to be in town and helped swop out blue Victoria for copper Victoria in the dead of night 😂 Today, it’s plumbers and electricians to help us get ready, then Josh will learn it and then the baristas will get training because this one is a vintage tank that gives you a serious workout when you pull a shot! It’s probably a temporary solution but it is very pretty 🩵 No promises yet on when we can serve espresso yet but know we’re working hard to make it happen!!

While we’re down, we’re cleaning the art walls, patching and doing paint touchups throughout - volunteers would be sooo welcome! Stop by if you’re free and we can do a little barn raising!

The cafe needs to take a couple of sick days. We’ll be closed for maintenance and repairs Monday Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

We’re very sorry to not be open, you know how much we love making cappuccinos and giving the neighborhood a spot to relax, work and create. We may not be back to 100% immediately, espresso machines can be complicated affairs, but we’re working hard on fixing the things that can be fixed.
