🎆 BREAKING: Special Smarty Pints on July 6! 🎆

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with us by flexing your civic muscles at our PUBLIC COMMENT WRITING PARTY!

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (i.e. Russell Vought) has proposed sweeping rule changes for federal grants. The proposed rules insert political appointees at every level of grantmaking, and give agencies the authority to cancel active grants at any time, for any reason.

They also put restrictions on how and what researchers share with the public about their work. Anything deemed “issue advocacy”? Call that “any reason” for your grant to be terminated. 🚫

These rules aren’t just for science grants, either - they’re for every grant, from every agency. Science, yes. Housing? Transportation? Arts? Yeah, those too.

Who will you not get to meet at Smarty Pints, because of these restrictions? Which talks have you been to that might not have happened under the proposed rules? 🫥

So what can you do? Submit a public comment! We’re writing together on July 6, and the deadline is July 13. OMB has to read and respond to every substantive comment - let’s give them plenty of input. Never written a public comment? We’ll have resources on hand to help you write a strong one. Bring a friend, bring a laptop, bring some sass, and let’s do this together. 🤝

Let’s raise a stein and welcome spring at our annual Frühlingsfest, May 8 through May 11. Inspired by traditional German spring festivals, this four-day celebration will feature a lively mix of authentic beers, spirited music, and classic Bavarian-style festivities. Bring your lederhosen!

We’re showcasing crisp lagers and a few German ales. A Munich Helles, a Munich Dunkel, a German Pilsner, and a 10 Degree Czech Pale. Rauchbier and Schwarzbier. Even a Maibock! And a Hefewiezen and a Kölsch for the ale fans. Head brewer Chaz Lakip brings deep respect for continental brewing traditions, with an emphasis on drinkability.

Pair them with bratwurst, landjaeger and soft pretzels. It’s going to be warm - ride your bike, get a radler made with of any of the lagers.

We’ll have Stein Hoisting Contests (Masskrugstemmen) throughout the weekend.

On Monday, the brewery will host a special Kölsch service, a traditional experience from Cologne. Servers will keep putting fresh 200ml tubes of Kölsch in front of you until you tell them you’ve had enough!

We’ve got Happy Smacks ice cream truck on site Saturday and Sunday, we’ve got brats every evening. Come thirsty!
