We catered a Sangeet last night On The Hiyu 🎉

Interestingly, not our first catering on a boat, but definitely our first in a food truck on a boat 😂

Menu - Aloo Samosas, Hara Bhara Kebabs, Malai Chicken Tikka, Pav Bhaji, Aloo Tikki Kathi Roll, Chicken Tikka Kathi Roll, Masala Chai & Soft Serve - Mango & Chai.

Congrats to the beautiful bride & groom who allowed us to be part of this event and planned it over months!

And thanks to our team for sticking it out till midnight last night 😱

Click Bait Alert 🚨
While this is a great picture of our Bhel Puri (a snack we used to have from a vendor sitting outside our college almost every day); we've been seeing a lot of conflicting information about the impact of the World Cup on the Seattle community so wanted to get your thoughts.

If you are in Pioneer Square, it seems like the crowds have been there consistently whether the USA is playing or not and businesses have been selling out. But, even on game days, it seems like a little further out in the CID it's been dead and hurting businesses.

For us - our business in the restaurants has been flat to slightly down during the tournament (correlation or not, not sure 🤷🏽‍♂️) but our van has been at Seattle Center and only on USA playing in Seattle days has that been good for us.

For fellow business owners - how has your business fared?

And for customers...what have you been doing during this World Cup?

⚠️ THIS IS NOT A BEST OF LIST ⚠️
For a while we've been asked where we eat and what our favorite spots are in Seattle so we wanted to share. In the spirit of the World Cup - here's our starting line-up of restaurants we like to eat at! ⚽

Caveat: Keep in mind that our list is based on living in South Seattle, the fact that we have younglings, and getting to know people through the industry.

🥯 Rachel's in Ballard is our go-to - the burritos are fantastic also but we get bagels for the team from here
🥐 After discovering Pufftown, Pike Place trips have increased a lot and our collab was 👌🏽
🍽️ Homer is the place we always take visitors; consistently great flavors
🥡 If you want Chinese food that is simple & comforting then Tai Tung, and if you want something different then Chiho hits the spot
🌮 The local taco truck at the nearest gas station is fantastic, and Carnitas Michocan is a perfect alternative
🍜 The Ooink above QFC is where we used to eat between working doubles when we first started Spice Waala
🍕 How fortunate are we to have both Stevie's & AK within 5 min drive 🙏🏽
🐟 La Marea flavors are so interesting and unique - I wish we lived closer
🍜 We've known the Brothers since we started our business and couldn't be happier that they found a home and are serving amazing food
🥖 South Side has more Banh Mi places that you can count so we rotate between Q's, Tonys & Thien Phat
🍔 When we crave a burger we make our pilgrimage to Queen Anne for Big Max

Special mention...
Yalla Seattle & us unfortunately have very similar hours so it's tough to get there but what they do for the community is nothing short of amazing
Stateside used to be our special occasion restaurant - it gutted us when they closed
Suli Man is worth going to, often
Kamonegi Seattle is a restaurant that is so unique - it's difficult to take kids there in the small space otherwise it would be on our list
San Fernando on Rainier was a weekly meal for us till they closed
Pho Bac on Rainier was also a weekly meal till they changed the recip

🍦 SAUNF 🍦 Today, through the month of we will be serving Saunf Soft Serve ice cream at all 📍 locations.

Saunf is candied fennel seeds that we use as a mouth freshener after meals in 🇮🇳 so expect fennel (kind of like mint if you aren't familiar) and freshness - the ideal flavor as we enter the summer months ☀️☀️☀️

In the 8+ years we've been in operation I can count the number of times we've closed a restaurant on one hand - twice when we've run out of food, once when it was a tragic situation, and Friday was the second time it was because of being short staffed. I think that's it 🖐🏽

Every time we close it cuts deep because it disappoints customers. But, most times, it is in the interest of the team. I think we are learning that the more businesses we have the more complex the web becomes and the tougher it is to juggle all the plates but without the team we currently have it would be impossible to survive.

In the last two months, the other thing that has changed is having our second 👶🏽 So yea, things evolve and we continue to adapt.

Come out and support our📍 Columbia City team when you can. I know they'd appreciate the ❤️

Yesterday someone from the delivered us a beacon and we couldn't be more proud that we were selected for this 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

As huge football fans, this World Cup, in our backyard, has been amazing to see. There are so many people all over the City wearing their jerseys, cheering on their teams, and so many organizations have put in so much work to make this a beautiful experience. Kudos to everyone involved.

And thank you for making us one of the small pieces of this puzzle ❤️
