Come join us for our last art opening of the year this Friday 10/30 from 6-9pm, celebrating the work of local artist . Antonia’s dreamy oil paintings bring familiar Pacific Northwest scenes into our cafe. She focuses on observing everyday beauty like billowing clouds over the West Seattle bridge, the view from a ferry window, or patterns of shade and sunlight among trees. It’s always a joy to see regular customer Gaynell Walker (pictured with Anthony), but the last time she was in she brought a hoodie for us by way of her daughter, KEXP DJ, author, activist and front woman for local band Eva Walker! Gaynell herself is a prolific former teacher and principal who has contributed greatly to education in the South End. As long time listeners and supporters of KEXP, we felt very honored - thank you Gaynell and Eva ❤️

We were fortunate to see American Doctor tonight, currently playing at in Columbia City through September 13th. This documentary, written and directed by , follows three American physicians - of Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian descent - through their time serving in Gaza’s hospitals in the last few years before bringing their fight for Palestinian liberation home to the US. The film tells one of so many important stories about the ongoing, devastating genocide and serves as an important reminder that we need to continue speak out for a free Palestine 🇵🇸🕊️🍉

Meet Joseph Irving, owner and barber over at Joseph’s Elite Image! Joseph was born and raised in Seattle and has been doing business out of his shop in Rainier Beach for almost 25 years. He also has a side gig up at the VA doing hair for vets. Joseph is a great barber and human being and has invested his time in our community in countless ways over the years, including being an integral part of getting the chess park across the street from his business up and running. He’s currently looking for a couple of barbers and braiders and if you’re interested in renting a spot, give him a call. Always nice to know your neighbors 💜

We have new art up again at the cafe, this time featuring our former neighbor .art! Kelly works with natural pigments and reclaimed materials on wooden panels, exploring identity and belonging through a maternal lens. The pieces are big and trippy and kind of feel like swimming through the rough endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria of a cell 🧬. Our art opening will take place this Friday 8/28 from 6-9pm and Mt Baker bluegrass/folk musician will be playing out on the garden level. Hope to see you for a summer’s last hurrah 🌻
