This morning I came into work in the dark to some hateful racist graffiti all over town and on some truly beloved small businesses. It’s infuriating, and honestly quite sad to see in our small town. While we were spared this time, I’ve had my business targeted by hate crimes (and yes we prosecute) and I just want to reiterate here that this is no place for hate - in our business, on our block, our downtown, in our community. As a whole we have to stand up for the most marginalized and make our businesses safe spaces for people to go and exist freely, regardless of race, religion, creed, gender or sexual identity.
Today is also Election Day, and it is a sad reality that hateful rhetoric is spewed from the highest powers of our country. It makes people feel comfortable doing the same in small communities like ours. It’s important to get out and vote. Vote for progress, kindness, change and most importantly, remember you vote every day with where you choose to spend your dollars. Go support these small businesses impacted by this incident and show them that kindness and love will always prevail. (The Redwood, Sportago, Center for the Arts)
