Here is some insight from a cake friend of mine Caroline Wade with Tammy Wakley

WHY DO CUSTOM CAKES COST SO MUCH??? Why would a cake made by a custom cake decorator cost more than at a grocery store or large bakery? Comparing a grocery store cake to a custom-designed cake from a professional cake decorator is like comparing a Hyndui Elantra to a Custom Porsche: both are cars and can get you from point A to point B, but the Porshe is made with the finest material and parts,
made just for you, by the best craftsman. That Porsche is going to cost A LOT more than the Elantra.
And when you’re ordering a custom cake, you’re not just paying for the ingredients that go into the cake, (which cost more than you think). You’re also paying for the time and expertise that it takes to turn those cake layers into the agreed-upon design, and the tools, and all the extra materials(i.e. cake boards, dowels, foils/parchment, ribbon). It can take several hours to several DAYS to ice and decorate a custom cake, depending on the complexity of the design. SO...When you ask for a CUSTOM cake don't be surprised at the CUSTOM price. I have started my PAGE.....I haven't added any photo's yet of cakes except my profile pics....but I will be adding photo's a little at a time, until then, please continue to "like" my page, because I am going to be deleting friends from my previous Cake Christine and changing that to only actual friends, family and customers who are local, I may even change my name.... everybody else I would appreciate it if you "like" my page, even if I keep you as my friend I would appreciate you like my page also. I can't have more than 5000 friends, but I can have more than 5000 likes!!!!
