One year ago, Essence Coffee Roasters became more than just the place my daughter grew up in since the day they opened when she was 2. Not the place that I worked from, laughed in every seat, and cried a few tears. Not only the place where I would go for every celebration, bring every friend visiting town, meet at every time I wanted to talk to my friends.

It became my responsibility. One of my loves. Something I have put every ounce of energy and care into for the past year. Where I’ve fallen in love with every person who steps foot into this coffee shop, from my incredible staff who are my chosen family, to the lovely creatives we support on our shelf, to our customers who continue to amaze me with their support. Thank you.

I’m grateful. I’m honored. I’m proud to grow this coffee shop in this small town and reach well beyond the peninsula. Thank you for trusting me. Thanks for buying ECR coffee, in the shop and to make at home. Thank you for your stories and your guidance. What a joy it is to be a part of your day 🤎

Essence is personal. It’s always been about the people. From our farmers, to our staff, to our amazing customers, we aren’t Essence without You.

It’s impossible not to get sentimental as Jacki wraps up her work at Essence before pausing to do her most important work, bringing her baby girl Earthside.

I will always remember the minute I met Jacki and how instantly she felt like a long-lost friend. Jacki has been my right hand for the past year. She takes the initiative, and takes my wild ideas and runs alongside me. She’s my trainer, my notice-and-doer, my honorary daughter 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ my kiddo’s bestie. The love she has for Essence is palpable. She’s far more than an excellent barista, she is truly the keeper of the culture. She’s my favorite workout buddy, my dearest friend, and I cannot imagine a life or coffee shop without her.

I know how special she is to you, so while you may not see her as much as you’re used to, let’s send her all the love and support as she begins this new journey!
