Before anyone decided shipping containers would make nice tiny houses, we were packing them full of soybeans headed to Japan. We still are. Hundreds of thousands of bushels each year are cleaned, sorted and packed securely to make their way across the sea.

The Versatile 1156, released in 1986, was one of the largest tractors produced at the time. We always wanted one, but it just wasn’t in the budget in those days. We were lucky enough to find one a few years ago and get it running. It doesn’t get a lot of use on our farm or have all the bells and whistles of today - but it's fine to drive and helps us remember some of those early days. Our 1156 will be 40 years old next year!

Dealing with flooding in your house is terrible, but most forget that field flooding can be a huge problem, too. Not only did standing water keep us out of the fields, but even when it receded, we had to deal with the clean-up before we could plant.

It’s time for planting prep. Equipment maintenance, getting seed aligned with each field, and prepping soils with needed nutrients are all happening now. In case you didn’t know, we rotate crops in fields each year to improve soil health, reduce pest and disease pressure, and increase yield.
