Captain’s Diary • 5/23/26

Today was a hard day at the inn.

There’s a strange feeling that comes with watching something you’ve poured your heart into grow. Last Memorial Day weekend, it was actually the slowest weekend we made just $78. Today, we broke our personal best — something we once only hoped for during the quiet days when the dining room sat empty and every customer felt like a small miracle.

And yet, celebration feels complicated.

We were short staffed as some of our team took a well-deserved holiday break, and the weight of that was felt throughout the day. Ticket times stretched far longer than we ever want them to, and some guests left without the warm, seamless experience we pride ourselves on creating.

That part sits heavy with us.

This inn means so much to us, and so does every single person who walks through our doors. We never want anyone to feel overlooked, rushed, or disappointed. While today tested us, it also reminded us how important it is to keep growing, preparing, and improving alongside the support this community continues to show us.

Please know we are already making plans to better navigate days like this moving forward & will be completely staffed up for tomorrow. We are listening, learning, and committed to doing better.

If you joined us today and your experience fell short of what it should have been, we sincerely hope you’ll give us another opportunity to show you the kind of hospitality we believe you deserve.

According to several very trusted sources my strawberry shortcake bars are the best thing I’ve ever baked?? The shortcake is a cross between a shortbread and sponge cake- it’s a weird Frankenstein recipe I’ve been playing with & the crème is a from scratch version of a little Debbie oatmeal creme pie creme!

There’s still a few in the case come and try!
