I try to help people think of creative ways to make smaller CHEAPER spaces feel clean, nice, luxurious, and filling. How to use the space they have, rethink how they live, and change their idea of what HOME has to look like. Because I REFUSE to be stressed out by these rent prices. I just refuse.
I’m a single mom. Even at the highest hourly rate I’ve ever made, working full-time at $21 an hour, I still couldn’t comfortably afford $1,400 a month for a two-bedroom apartment, almost $500 in before-and-after-school care so I could work, AND my electric, phone bill, groceries, and everything else that comes with living.
No matter how you rearrange the numbers, that’s a lot for one person to carry while raising a child.
We’re in 2026, and I refuse to drown financially trying to live up to somebody else’s standard of what a two-person household is supposed to look like. I don’t want to spend my entire life working just to survive. I don’t want to be so stressed about bills that I can’t enjoy a single carefree day. I don’t want to sacrifice my peace just to say I have a two-bedroom apartment.
So I made a decision: I refuse to live anywhere that costs me more than $600 a month in rent, whether that means a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom.
And if it’s a one-bedroom? My son gets the bedroom. I can create my own bedroom space with floor-to-ceiling dividing curtains, make it look beautiful, keep things organized, and create a sense of privacy for both of us.
Because privacy doesn’t always require another wall, and luxury doesn’t always require more square footage. Sometimes, it requires creativity, intention, and learning how to make what you have work for you.
Those curtains can create separation. A thoughtful layout can create comfort. A smaller space can still feel peaceful, beautiful, and like HOME.
And because I’m not constantly working myself into the ground just to afford more space, I have more time and energy to be present with my child, enjoy my life, and actually LIVE.
I’m not lowering my standard of living. I’m redefining it.
I want peace. I want financial breathing room. I want time with my child. I want to enjoy my life while I’m living it, not spend every day stressing over the cost of existing.
We have to stop believing that bigger automatically means better and that struggling to maintain a certain lifestyle is the price we have to pay to be comfortable.
Sometimes, the real luxury is having LESS space to pay for and MORE life to enjoy✨🤍
