🍳 Evan's Egg House in Ludlow, Mass., is a classic breakfast spot with a cozy, welcoming interior bustling with locals fueling up for the day ahead. With about a dozen tables, the restaurant has an intimate feel, and although it was busy, it was easy to flag down our friendly server for coffee refills.

One of the breakfast specials on the day we visited was a Belgian waffle topped with mixed berries and whipped cream. The sweet, juicy blend of strawberries, blueberries, black raspberries, and red raspberries was piled generously atop the waffle, along with fluffy mounds of whipped cream. For me, any Belgian waffle special is the perfect blend of breakfast with just a hint of dessert.

We also enjoyed a more classic breakfast plate consisting of two eggs over easy, seasoned home fries, toast, and corned beef hash. It was a satisfying, no-frills breakfast that definitely hit the spot.

For home-style cooking in a cozy atmosphere, Evan’s Egg House is a great spot to visit the next time you're heading out for breakfast. The Three Forks Review awards Evan’s Egg House 2.5 forks.

The Three Forks Review: Italian Festival Edition 🇮🇹

Springfield Italian Feast is a 3 day festival July 10-12 in the South End featuring Italian food, entertainment, and a grease pole competition.

Some of our favorite bites:

🇮🇹 Brick Oven Margherita pizza - excellent charred crust topped with fresh mozzarella and basil

🇮🇹 Fried Dough topped with pizza sauce and cheese - the sauce was out of this world! So flavorful

🇮🇹 Compania Gelato from La Fiorentina Pastry Shop - a creamy blend of ricotta variegated with apricot and hazelnut crumble. Best gelato flavor we’ve ever tried!

🇮🇹 Fiori di Zucca - cheese stuffed zucchini flowers that are then deep fried. Such a unique flavor that is a bit sweet, savory, and creamy yet crispy dough exterior

Looking forward to next year! 🍕

🍕 As a UMass alum, I am very familiar with the Amherst location of Antonio’s Pizza by the Slice and its outstanding variety of slices. I recently discovered their Belchertown location, which not only offers pizza by the slice but also indoor, outdoor, and bar seating.

We enjoyed an outdoor table on a pleasant summer evening. Having visited once before for some slices, we already knew the pizza was good, but this time we wanted to branch out and try a few other menu items.

The CBR wrap was filled with grilled chicken, bacon, BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato, ranch, and cheddar jack cheese. Served with a side of fries, it was flavorful and an enjoyable choice.

The Chicken Parmesan Calzone was so large it didn't even fully fit on the plate. It featured a thin dough with a nicely browned crust around the edge. Inside, it was packed with chopped chicken cutlet and mozzarella cheese, while the marinara was served on the side for dipping. It was another enjoyable menu item, although we would have liked it even more if it had been cooked for just a few extra minutes.

We also ordered a small cheese pizza. The sauce had great flavor, and there was a generous amount of cheese on top. While it was a very good pizza, my go-to will still be Antonio's slices. I enjoy the extra crispness the crust develops when the slices are reheated. Whether you order a whole pie or grab a slice to go, it's a great stop for pizza.

For its variety of seating options, quality pizza, and outstanding selection of slices, the Three Forks Review awards Antonio's Pizza By The Slice-Belchertown 2.5 Forks.

✈️ The Rendezvous in Turners Falls, Mass., or “the Voo” as locals like to call it, is a bar and grill serving lunch and dinner. For more than 130 years, this spot has been been a place where locals can meet up and enjoy a drink together. In 2007, a kitchen was added, along with a selection of works from local artists. There’s a cool, eclectic, artsy energy throughout the space that makes it feel both welcoming and creative, creating a uniquely comfortable atmosphere to settle in for drinks and dinner.

We started the evening with the Ginger Libation Mule draft which was a refreshing blend of ginger and lime crafted by Artisan Beverage out of Amherst, Mass. Our Margarita was equally refreshing, made with fresh sour mix and silver agave tequila.

The menu at the Rendezvous has a nice mix of traditional pub food, tacos, pizza, and entrees. The General Tso chicken wings were coated in a delicious sticky, sweet, tangy sauce with a subtle General Tso’s flavor. Perfectly cooked with a nice bit of crisp, we thoroughly enjoyed the wings.

The Rendezvous also does an excellent job delivering a classic 1/2-pound beef burger served on a potato roll with a side of really good fries. The fries were so good, in fact, they reminded me of the ones my father would make at home, shaking a paper bag filled with piping hot French fries while we eagerly awaited each batch. Crisp on the outside, soft in the middle, and simple, they brought back those familiar childhood memories. It takes a special fry to evoke that kind of nostalgia, and the Voo hit the mark. We also loved being able to add fried Brussels sprouts as a side.

The food at the Rendezvous is excellent, and the atmosphere has a fun vibe that reflects the creative spirit of the community. We really enjoyed seeing the work of local artists displayed throughout the restaurant and look forward to returning to catch a live band. With both indoor and outdoor patio seating, this is a great spot to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. As I'm sure you've guessed, it comes as no surprise that The Rendezvous earned 3 Forks from our visit.

⛳️ Sometimes you meet someone special and can’t get them off your mind. It all started one June evening when a plate holding a trio of garlic butter rolls was placed in front of me. If a perfect pillowy dinner roll married a flaky croissant and honeymooned in a sea of butter and loads of garlic, then their perfect baby would be the garlic butter rolls at Terrazza in Greenfield, Mass. Made fresh daily, I have zero regrets that I filled up on the rolls and could only eat half of my entrée.

Terrazza is the restaurant located at the Greenfield Country Club, and it is an excellent spot even if you aren’t swinging clubs. Open to the public, Terrazza serves Italian classics alongside a great variety of burgers and sandwiches.

Open since 2013, Terrazza is run by the former owner of Bella Notte in Bernardston, Mass. With a lovely outdoor terrace and inviting indoor dining, Terrazza elevates your typical clubhouse into a more distinctive dining experience while still embracing its golf course setting.

Lucky for us, we visited on a Friday evening and got to enjoy the prime rib dinner special. Served with a salad, roasted red potatoes, green beans, and carrots, the prime rib was so tender and accompanied by a rich, flavorful au jus that made each bite superb. The potatoes and vegetables were delicious, but by this point my earlier tussle with those garlic butter rolls had stopped me in my dining tracks. Dreams of dessert were dashed as well, but the sacrifice was absolutely worth it.

My dining companion enjoyed the chicken parmigiana, which arrived on a charming golf themed plate. Served atop ziti, the generously sized, hand-tenderized breaded chicken breast tasted incredibly fresh and arrived bubbling hot with marinara sauce, finished under a blanket of melted mozzarella cheese.

Each bite reminded us what it takes for a restaurant to earn our highest rating of 3 forks. A pleasant setting, professional and friendly staff, and outstanding food all came together at Terrazza. We walked back to our car in a dreamy food coma, saying out loud that Terrazza had, without a doubt, earned 3 Forks.
