JUDGE SIDES WITH NELLY IN $50 MILLION LAWSUIT OVER “COUNTRY GRAMMAR”
Looks like Nelly came out on top in a lawsuit tied to his classic album Country Grammar. According to court records, Ali Jones accused Nelly and the St. Lunatics of owing him royalties, claiming he helped with songwriting on the album while Nelly mainly performed the records.
The lawsuit originally sought $50 million and included other St. Lunatics members, but they reportedly backed away from the case early on and said they never authorized it. Jones later continued the lawsuit alone before eventually moving to dismiss the case in 2025.
Nelly’s legal team argued the claims had no merit, calling them “time-barred” and frivolous. A federal judge ultimately sided with Nelly, shutting the case down.
We know Ali probably hot behind this one because Country Grammar was one of the biggest albums to ever come out of St. Louis, spending five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts and helping launch Nelly into superstardom.
