Fresh paint. Fresh carpets. Quiet corners finally brought back to life after months of waiting. New lights glowing above the sushi bar the way they were always meant to. A smoother to-go station, a warmer waiting area, little details carefully rearranged until the space felt like us again.

And along the way, a new shortcut to the kitchen was created. So if you hear opera singing, bursts of laughter, or the rhythm of a busy kitchen a little more clearly now… welcome to Matsu Ya.

What looks like a refresh from the outside is rarely simple behind the scenes. One project becomes three more hidden ones. Long nights past midnight. Systems rebuilt. Countless moments of standing still, staring at something unexpected, and laughing in disbelief before figuring it out anyway.

But we made it.

Our first day back came with trial, adjustment, and a few more fixes along the way, but more than anything, it reminded us how grateful we are for a staff that pours their energy and heart into this place every day, and for the guests whose kindness and support make Matsu Ya shine as brightly as it does. ❤️

Intentional and endless thanks to Gil (pictured with mural) for coming here to paint, and leaving behind so much more than that. For putting the love and care into our home that we try to put into yours every day. We're grateful to know and to have had you here at such an important time.

We've officially reopened our doors to welcome you all back to our home! As always, thank you for the patience and the love. We're ready to give it right back. 🍣

Update: our deep clean is done. Carpets are refreshed, the entire restaurant is reorganized, and we added 3 more projects along the way (that took an extra 3 days to the original plan and counting). We think you're really going to love the extra care put in this year ❤️ thanks to .perez and El Mezcal Restaurant Stevens Point for tacos for lunch this time!

First official deep clean day was a success! Lots of wiping, spraying, laughing, and lunch from The Wooden Chair that got us through ❤️ we hope you all are exciting to see us revamped for May 21st!
