What a day for Struthers.
Proud of the City of Struthers and Union Pacific Railroad for the incredible coordinated effort that brought more than 15,000 visitors to the Bridge Street crossing on July 12, 2026.
At Selah, we've always loved the trains because they represent the manufacturing heritage and industrial output of the Mahoning Valley. Most days, the people waiting at the Bridge Street crossing are hoping the train passes quickly so they can get to the other side of town. For one day, thousands gathered hoping the gates would come down and the train would arrive. And stop.
And when it finally did, many of us were moved by the echoes of the National Anthem, the pulse of the steam engine, and the cheers of proud Midwesterners celebrating not only this beautiful machine, but also the Union Pacific team.
To the many visitors who stopped by Selah for a coffee, a meal, or a beer — and to the many more who shared our parking lot as a gathering place for the day's events — thank you for making us part of such a memorable community celebration.
The departure video is a long one, but if you stay until the end you'll see the final car — the Marco Polo Pullman — which carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 and again in 1940.
Funny how 30 minutes could make for such a proud day in Struthers, Ohio.
