Hey there!
I just wanted to hop on here and give everyone an update. I have been quiet these last few months since cleaning up from the flood. Taking time to process our many losses, heal our wounds and explore new potentials.
We explored many options. Too many to list. At the end of the day, I put my heart and soul into this for the last 7 years and was able to build this bakery from the ground up and the ONLY way to reopen was to go into debt. We literally lost everything and got NOTHING from all the help we applied for that was advertised. I never went into debt the entire time. It was a huge accomplishment. I cannot do that to myself or my family now.
So after some really long conversations, we have decided to close permanently. This decision wasn’t easy. Being a business owner wasn’t easy. It’s amazing the impact of major life changes and the realizations that follow. Last year was by far the worst year of my entire 32 years of existence.
So for now, I’m gonna soak in being a mom and maybe try out a few new crafty things in the future.

HAPPY. THANKSGIVING!

While we are still recovering from this devastating flood, and missing my mama terribly, we are thankful. Today we will cook, eat, laugh and play games. And while we were unable to bake for you for this holiday, rest assured we will be back!
We don’t know when and we don’t know where, but we will rebuild. 🖤

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered help! It means so much to us. At this point We are looking for volunteers to help clean out the bakery. If anyone can help I’ll be here most of today and all day tomorrow.

Well, what we had hoped wouldn’t be a reality, is in fact a reality. This video was taken by Paul earlier today. This is the inside of the bakery in its current state. Unfortunately the entire bakery did flood, about a foot high or so and we are completely shut down. We are hoping this is temporary but this will be a long road ahead. And there is a very real possibility we may not come out of this able to reopen. 😭😭😭😭
Just like so many of you, we have lost so much. We have worked non stop for the last almost 7 years building this bakery to what it is now and it’s gone. To say I am heartbroken is an understatement.
Thank you all for your love and support. We promise we will keep you updated on things. Keep all of Whatcom County in your thoughts.

I really wish this was a happy post… but due to the severity of the flooding today in Sumas, we are anticipating and preparing for the hard news that our bakery will join the lengthy list of homes and businesses with flood water in them. Although not yet confirmed, We are cancelling all upcoming orders for this weekend and we are going to close until further notice. Everyone who has an order for this weekend has been notified and we are so very sorry. We hope to asses the area by Wednesday and will keep you updated. We are devastated not only for the time, money and hard work we have put into this little space, but for everyone affected. Our hearts are with everyone.
Frankly, this has been a terrible year and I’d like a do over. ☹️

*** BE A BLESSING & MAKE A DIFFERENCE to and for our neighbors and friends, after giving thanks this morning for those who have made a difference in yours, of course ***

THIS SUNDAY, starting at NOON at the City Shop in Everson, 605 Robinson Street, and starting at 1:00 P.M. behind Sumas City Hall, 433 Cherry Street, volunteers are URGENTLY NEEDED AND REQUESTED to assist in preparing and distributing sandbags to alleviate the impacts of excepted flooding in both areas, due to rising temperatures creating snow melt, and the extraordinary rainfall associated with a "Pineapple Express".
Bring a shovel, gloves, boots, and rain or outdoor gear. It's a wee bit damp out this morning.
High School Juniors and Seniors, those strong backs (or at least backs that recover more quickly) are needed!

Flooding is at this time expected to be similar to February of 2020, (pictured above) but please follow the City of Sumas and Everson Police Department pages or other social media for the latest and most direct information.

Time to do what we do in north Whatcom County, and that's look out for each other, help each other when we can, and be both a blessing and blessed, this time with boots on. It's our caring and giving that makes this little corner of the world not just a place to live, but a community to call home.
