We have donated many Shadowboxes to gold star families over the years. A Gold Star Family is the immediate family of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who died while serving in the military, whether during combat, training, or certain other service-related circumstances.
The term originated during World War I. Families displayed a service flag with a blue star for each loved one serving in the military. If that service member died, the blue star was replaced with a gold star, symbolizing the family’s sacrifice.

Dennis Orbino took Bob O’Brien’s spot on patrol in Vietnam on 25 March 1969. This decision changed the trajectory of 2 families. Sgt Orbino was on his 3rd tour in Vietnam. He never made it home. We were honored to make a Shadowbox for the Sarasota that was featured today on ABC7 news. 1stSgt (ret) Lou Gregory, silver star recipient and Deputy (manatee county sheriff) reached out to see what we could do to help memorialize Sgt Orbino. We did what we do best and turn a vision into reality. Happy 250 America. It’s gentlemen like this that make this country what it is today. To our Vietnam veterans… welcome home.

Happy 250th birthday to our country. Thanks to those who serve today and have served. Thanks to all who fight for our freedoms at the local and state level to protect what was earned 250 years ago. Thanks to those on Capitol Hill lobbying for our troops and veterans and for those lobbying for human rights and better lives for our people! Thanks to those who keep our politicians accountable. Thank you to everyone doing their part so that we can leave our children something worth fighting for. In case everyone forgot Kuwait still isn’t a real deployment. #250
