It’s Belgian Biere Tuesday! This week we’re featuring another Belgian biere legend, Westmalle Tripel - a beer that helped define the style itself!
First brewed by the Trappist monks of Westmalle Abbey in 1934, this beer is often called the “mother of all Tripels.” It pours radiant gold with a thick, creamy cap of foam. The aroma opens with ripe pear, honey, and vanilla lifted by the signature Belgian yeast character that brings soft clove, ripe banana, white pepper, and a touch of floral perfume. The flavor unfolds with layers of pear, clove, and subtle herbal hops, finishing dry with a slight warmth from its strength. Despite its elevated alcohol level (9.5% ABV), Westmalle Tripel remains elegant, balanced, and endlessly drinkable. It’s a true benchmark for the Tripel style!
