tea.o.graphy is geography 🌍🍃
The week sure flew by! And if you measure it in tea, we sure took quite a trip in the teapot!
From misty mountain slopes to sun-soaked valleys, every cup traces a place, a climate, a set of hands. If you read the tea leaves,
tea isn’t just a drink… it’s a map!
All true tea comes from one plant: Camellia sinensis. One species, grown across a global tea belt, shaped by altitude, rain, soil and time. Tea grows best in cool, humid, high-elevation regions with steady rainfall, acidic well-drained soil, and misty mountain climates that slow growth and concentrate flavor. Same leaf and completely different expressions depending on tea-oire! Here’s a little roadmap:
🇨🇳 China: endless styles from green to pu-erh
🇮🇳 India: Assam’s body, Darjeeling’s high mountain brightness
🇱🇰 Sri Lanka: clean, citrusy Ceylon grown in elevation and cloud
🇰🇪 Kenya: bold, brisk black teas
🇯🇵 Japan: steamed greens shaped by precision and shade-grown fields
🇹🇼 Taiwan: mountain oolongs, floral and layered with altitude
🇻🇳 Vietnam, 🇮🇩 Indonesia, 🇳🇵 Nepal: quiet producers with distinct regional voices
And beyond that, smaller tea pockets stretch into Georgia, Argentina, parts of Africa, and experimental gardens in places like the southern US, each adapting the same plant to a new story.
It’s not called tea.o.graphy by accident! 🍵✨
