Here is a little history that I have been promising to share…
This is part 1 of likely a 2-3 part series!
There is a lot to tell and I am certain that I don’t know the half of it!
Long before there were wings here, this building was home to Floyd’s Seven Oaks, and Seven Oaks, one of Northern Kentucky’s legendary gathering places. Musicians played here, and families and friends gathered around.
For over 100 years, this building has been making memories. Knuk N Futz has had the honor of being part of it’s story for over 30 of those years!
I’d like to take a moment to thank Jamie Schworer and Jessica Schworer Dunham for sharing some of their family history and photos with us many years ago. And for continuing to support us here at Knukz.
Crystal Gayle, T.G. Shepard, Jack Sanders Trio, Jonie Lee, (Conway Twitty’s Daughter) Jimmy Nantz, Kenny Starr, and many others played here! Rumor also has it, although I don’t have photos or newspaper documentation, that Jerry Lee Lewis also played here. He has been connected to longtime community accounts.
According to longtime locals, other legendary performers said to have graced the stage here were Conway Twitty, George Jones, and Tammy Wynette. I would love if anyone out there could provide pictures, newspaper clippings or any other memorabilia as evidence to that, so we could make copies of all and display!
I’ve added a few pics for part one of this series:
-The original Seven Oaks Building
-Photos of Crystal Gayle performing here along with her performance contract and signed photos.
-Newspaper ads, menus, ticket stubs and other memorabilia.
-Family photos from the Schworer Family who spent part of their childhood growing up around Seven Oaks.
-These treasures have been hanging on our walls for many years, but often go unnoticed.
And we would love it if you’d share your fondest memories or photos of this building with us, no matter what it was called at the time!
Crystal Gayle’s contract, as seen below, was for $1000 in 1976. How much do you think a performance by her today would cost?
Enjoy! 💕
