Happy Christmas Day brunch from my kitchen to yours!!!! 🎄Lately I’ve been craving more moments that invite curiosity.
Slower mornings. Cooking with intention. Creating without rushing the process.

While I’ve taken a step back to rest and reset (which we all know that’s not really real in December 🙃), my husband (& a small Northern Michigan team) have been quietly working on something that’s been living at the intersection of all those things: thoughtful questions, beautiful answers, and the magic of good tech built with care.

The last few weeks gave me something I didn’t realize I was craving — space. Space to breathe, wander, write, and refill the creative well while sitting in tiny cafés in Paris with no agenda except to notice.

One observation struck me over and over again: no one walks around Paris with a coffee in hand. Coffee isn’t a task you squeeze in — it’s a pause you honor. A moment to sit, connect, reflect…to actually be present with your life as it’s happening. It reminded me that slowness isn’t indulgent — it’s necessary. Stepping away from what’s familiar gave me clarity in a way I didn’t expect. It helped me reconnect with what I love most about creating moments: the thoughtfulness, the beauty in the small details, the space to imagine what comes next.

It made me think about everything Mission Proper was built on: intention, beauty in the small things, creating a place where people feel invited to slow down and feel connected and part of something warm & genuine. It also reminded me to give myself permission to do the same — to take a breath, be present with & our kiddos, and imagine what comes next with a clear heart.

As Mission Proper enters its own season of pause, I’m taking the holidays to reflect, reset, and quietly create the next iteration of this brand I love so much. I don’t have all the answers yet but I promise you the inspiration is flowing and I feel grounded and grateful for this next chapter!! 🫶

And today my heart is full watching something beautiful unfold back home. Congratulations to and the entire team on a wonderful opening weekend. Seeing my son Ellis enjoy a cocoa steamer on your first day made me smile in that deep, proud way —— the kind that tells you a place will be loved. 🥰

Big news for OMP & TC! ☕✨

I’m so excited to officially share that Right Bower Kitchen & Coffee is opening in the former Mission Proper space at Seven Hills on Sunday, November 16!

Led by the incredibly talented , Right Bower will carry the torch forward with a fresh vision, a full coffee bar, and a delicious kitchen program — still very much a “third place” for locals and visitors to gather, linger, and connect.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to cheer Victoria on from the other side of the counter. She’s thoughtful, creative, and brings so much heart to this work. I can’t wait to sit in that space, sip a latte, and experience Right Bower as a guest. 💕

As for me — I’ve been spending a few days in Paris, unplugging a bit and soaking up inspiration for our next big pivot (nothing corner cafes and good people watching). More to come on what’s next for Mission Proper as the brand evolves, but for now, the spotlight belongs to Right Bower and this exciting new chapter at Seven Hills.

The end of an era. 💔🍂 Today was our last day of service at Mission Proper.

Thank you for being part of something truly special. For showing up not just today, but over and over again….rain or shine, summer or snow, first sips to final bites. You made this place magic.

We’re tucking in now. Resting. Reflecting. Holding each other close. But this isn’t goodbye forever… just the closing of a beautiful chapter.

We’re rolling out one final batch of our Detroit-style pizza slices this Saturday….just in time to say goodbye the Proper way. Dough is already in the works, cold-fermented and rising as we speak. It’s going to be good.

Autumn is making her shift known in the trees set ablaze, in the clouds rolling in and out with a moody kind of drama, in the golden breaks of sun followed by rain… and then, rainbow after rainbow. I saw three within 20 minutes today. I mean could it be more magical?

Something about it all made me pause. Really pause. To breathe it in, to notice. And in that stillness, I felt a quiet sort of peace. Peace, because I know what we created here at Mission Proper is truly good!! Good for the community. Good for connection. Good for the soul. And happiness, too - because I know the heart of this place will continue. A third space will remain for gathering, dreaming, laughing, and lingering over a coffee .

As we enter our final weekend, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for showing up. For supporting us. For making this small little business more than just a business. We are open through this Sunday, October 26th and we hope you’ll come in to say goodbye, share a memory, enjoy a latte & smile with our team.

I’ll be personally working alongside my crew who made this all happen. And while change is never easy, I believe in it. I believe in the growth that comes after the letting go. I believe in the next chapter even if I don’t know every line of it yet.

We know many of you are wondering what’s next for this space… and while we haven’t been able to share until now, you’ll be able to hear more in person this weekend. So come. Hang out. Share a hug. (but don’t make me cry too much!!)

There is magic in change.
There is beauty in the in-between.
And there is always more good to come.

✨ Community Update ✨Mission Proper’s last day of operations will be Sunday, October 26th.

Creating something out of nothing has been one of the most humbling and rewarding journeys in my story yet (aside from parenting of course 😜). This community welcomed us with open arms, and together we’ve built more than a café — we’ve built a place of connection. 💛

I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for my absolutely, insanely talented team. They’ve been on this wild ride alongside me and have made Mission Proper what it is today. Their energy, creativity, and heart have been the magic behind the counter, and I hope you’ll join us in celebrating them during these final weeks. A very special shout out to 🫶

✨ While this chapter closes on October 26, there is exciting energy behind the scenes with a potential new candidate interested in carrying the torch forward under a refreshed vision. Knowing that this space may continue as a third place for our community makes my heart full. ✨

As we begin this transition, we’d love for you to come celebrate with us. If you have outstanding gift cards, now’s the perfect time to use them!! Bring a friend, sip a fall seasonal latte, or join us for one last visit while you take in the Autumn colors on Old Mission. 🍂

Most importantly, I’m hopeful. Hopeful that this energy continues for our community. Hopeful that the coffee and connection you’ve come to love here will carry forward. And hopeful that we’ll all raise one last cup together before 10/26! ☕️
