Planning to visit Multnomah Falls this summer? Starting May 22, a timed-use pass is required for those arriving by personal vehicle at the I-84 Exit 31 parking lot.

Mother’s Day felt like the right reason to slow down for this one...

So many of the people who make Sugarpine what it is are women. Women who lead here, create here, raise families, build community, and still make space for adventure, fresh air, and time together outside.

This month’s 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 — “𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗢 𝗚𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘” is about the quiet ways mothers shape our relationship with the outdoors.

Not through big moments.

Through the smaller ones that stay with you forever.

Your mom letting you stay in the rain a little longer.
Stopping with you along the trail to look at rocks, flowers, and little discoveries.
Teaching confidence through trust.
Planting seeds that quietly shape who we become.
Showing your kids that a life outdoors is something worth holding onto.

This one feels personal to us.

Sugarpine is woman-owned. A lot of our team is made up of incredibly talented women. And every day we get to watch families gather here after hikes, river days, wildflower walks, soccer games, and long drives through the Gorge.

𝗠𝗔𝗬 𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗦 🌻🪻🌸🌱

Wildflowers are nearing peak bloom here in the Columbia River Gorge — hillsides washed in bright green, slopes exploding with balsamroot and lupine… wildflowers stretching as far as you can see.

The waterfalls are still ripping from the runoff, trails are in prime shape, and the days are long enough to stretch out.

It’s one of those windows that makes living here feel pretty special. Time to make a plan to get out there.

𝑺𝑷𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑪𝑯𝑰𝑵𝑶𝑶𝑲 𝑵𝑰𝑪𝑶𝑰𝑺𝑬

Smoked Columbia River king salmon with poached fingerling potatoes, niçoise olives, lemon-dill labneh, pickled green beans, cured egg, marinated cucumber, Greek dressing and turnip-mentaiko taramasalata.

Spring Chinook season is the best time of year in the Gorge. “Springers” are the king of fish. We wait all year for it. High fat, deep orange color, clean, rich flavor — it doesn’t need much.

We keep the smoke light and pair it with Niçoise vegetables, plus an herby labneh and turnip taramasalta that add a touch of Greek influence. And a soft, 7 minute egg cured in turmeric that adds even more savory richness.

It is a bit more than you’d expect from a drive-in salad special, for sure... but it’s so damn good.

We’re getting a sneak peek at summer this weekend, and could see some record-breaking heat on Sunday. If you’re thinking about heading to the Sandy River to cool off, please remember a few things:

🥶 That water might look refreshing… but it is COLD. Like, shock-your-system cold. Cold water can quickly take your breath away, making it hard to swim – even for the strongest swimmers. And right now, the river is running fast, with powerful currents that can sweep you off your feet in seconds.

🛟Lifeguards will NOT be on duty at Glenn Otto Park until Memorial Day weekend.

🦺 If you choose to enter the water, PLEASE WEAR A LIFE JACKET. Not just for kids. For everyone.

Stay aware of fast-moving currents, don’t swim alone, and keep the kiddos within arm’s reach. Enjoy the weekend, but stay safe!
