Twenty years ago today, Billy and I opened the doors to The Sweet Escape.
Looking at this photo, I can still feel that night — the excitement, the nerves, the exhaustion, the hope. We had no idea what the next twenty years would bring. We only knew we were doing it together.
This place has been so much more than a business. It has been our life’s work, our family project, our summer rhythm, our test of faith, patience, humor, stubbornness, and love. We have grown up inside these walls in so many ways.
Billy and I have been through so much together — the beautiful, the hard, the impossible, the ordinary days that somehow become the most precious. Through all of it, there has been love. A deep, steady, imperfect, real love. The kind that shows up, keeps going, fixes what breaks, laughs when it can, and holds on when things are hard.
And then there is this community.
You have celebrated with us, worked beside us, waited in line, brought your children, sent your children to work here, come back year after year, and made this little place part of your own memories. You have let us be part of your summers, your birthdays, your beach days, your after-dinner walks, your traditions.
That is the sweetest part of The Sweet Escape.
To every person who has walked through our doors, worked a shift, scooped ice cream, baked with us, cheered us on, forgiven our mistakes, and kept coming back — thank you.
Twenty years later, we are still here. Still grateful. Still tired. Still laughing. Still in love with what we built together.
Happy 20 years to The Sweet Escape.
And thank you for being part of our story.
