Let’s try this again, because apparently I stirred up something I wasn’t expecting. Honestly, the only stir I was hoping for was in a cocktail.

I’m a woman-owned small business, and I’ve been in business for over 22 years. I’m not corporate, and I don’t run my business like a corporation. I hire people from all walks of life because I value work ethic, personality, and character. I want my employees to be themselves.

I won’t comment on a woman’s body. We all come in different shapes and sizes, and the exact same outfit can look completely different on two different people. If another employee wore the same outfit in a photo, the comments may have been, “She’s adorable,” or “That’s exactly what I’d wear when it’s 85° outside.”

For those wondering, yes, we have Union Square Deli shirts, and my staff wears them. They don’t all wear tank tops every day.

I’m not going to apologize for my original post because when I took that picture, none of the things being discussed in the comments ever crossed my mind. What I saw was one hard-working employee that I have just added to my team. 

She shows up 30 minutes early just to see if anyone needs help. On her days off, if she stops by and we’re busy, she jumps in without being asked. She can make an incredible cocktail, carry on conversations with customers, take orders, run food, and somehow be everywhere at once. She works over 40 hours most weeks and I’ve never heard her complain.

I’ve never heard her create drama. I’ve never heard her make inappropriate comments. I’ve never heard her bring up politics. What I have seen is someone who works incredibly hard, takes pride in her job, and genuinely cares about our customers.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who notices. Other businesses have come in and tried to recruit her because they recognize the same work ethic that I do.

At Union Square Deli, we judge our employees by their integrity, professionalism, kindness, and the service they provide not by their body. I am proud of all my staff, and the service they provide. We have a great team.

I asked her to take a picture of her, I was proud her hard work and I wanted to showcase that. It’s not her fault. Come after me not her.

So… since the comments seem to have missed the point of my original post, let’s get back to what I actually meant to share.

🎉 We’re back to 100% and better than ever!

Great news! Our prep table is officially fixed… and we ended up with a bonus prep table too! 🙌

That means we’re rocking and rolling at full capacity with our full menu back in action—just in time for what is sure to be a busy Fourth of July week! 🇺🇸🍕🥪☕🍺

Man, oh man, yesterday was a whirlwind! Our prep table compressor decided to call it quits right in the middle of our busy season.

The good news? It’s still under warranty. 🎉

The bad news? It’ll be about a week before the replacement arrives. 😬

A huge shoutout to Bradley Air for their prompt response and quick diagnosis. We truly appreciate the excellent service!

Even better news—my boyfriend is an absolute rock star (and definitely a keeper ❤️). After getting off work, he tracked down a replacement prep table and delivered it to the deli last night. It’s only about half the size of our original one, so we’ll be temporarily trimming down the menu, but we’re still open and ready to serve you!

My sister also came to the rescue, along with Chef Adam. They helped assess the situation, brainstorm menu adjustments, and figure out how to rearrange the kitchen to keep things running smoothly.

And of course, my mom and our amazing staff jumped right in and worked tirelessly to get everything reorganized and back in order as quickly as possible.

Sometimes small business ownership throws you curveballs, but moments like this remind me how lucky I am to have such an incredible village around me. Despite the hiccups, we’re up and running, and we’re grateful for all of your support. ❤️
