To celebrate our 1-year anniversary, starting Friday (5/29) we will FINALLY be serving liquor.

This has been the single most asked for improvement at Watkins and we appreciate you bearing with us while we learned the ropes and put the pieces together to make this happen.

If I’m being perfectly honest, we still feel like amateurs in the restaurant business. Taking this step felt huge, but we finallly feel like we are as ready as we can be.

We will have a simple, specific menu of six or seven common drinks to start. Think Gin & Tonic, Jack & Coke, etc.

We promise to add more drink options very soon, we just want to start slow and get comfortable. We already have 4 or 5 more mixed drinks we plan to roll out in coming weeks, then after that we plan to have some fun with drink specials regularly.

At this time we will not have a full bar or a bartender, it’s simply not possible with our current layout (stupid/awesome giant window) and staffing.

Thank you so much for continuing to come in and support us and our staff. We promise to keep improving. Hooper is looking amazing and it’s finally porch weather (most days), so come on down.

Captain’s log - Day 363: Fries

As we close in on our 1-year anniversary of being open under new management, we have two big things to share with you this week!

Starting Thursday we are changing to a new fry. :gasp:

It’s no secret that we’ve had some consistency issues with our fries… There are several small things contributing to the inconsistency, some we’ve been able to control, some we have not. At the end of the day we can’t have our best selling side item be one that we can’t give the best version of each time.

Our new fry is a lightly breaded, lightly season variant, somewhere between our old fry and a steak fry in size. It will be available with parm or without, and with fry sauce or ketchup.

We know this will take some getting used to, and we want you to know we didn’t come to this decision lightly. It sounds a little crazy to say about a side item, but we took this one very seriously. We tested many options and when we settled on this one, we also had several customers try it in advance. The response so far has been great. We hope you will love it.

It feels like I’m forgetting something… was there something else I was going to mention? Guess I’ll have to think of it and post about it tomorrow.
