Repost from When I was 18 I watched season 3 of and was instantly hooked. After that I bought the first 2 seasons on DVD and binged them.
In college I incorporated the show into every class I could. My dorm walls lined with a cut up Dexter calendar.
I always thought it would be cool to go to Miami simply because that’s where the show was set. And now, years after the show ended and now being 31 years old…it unexpectedly came back and this time in Iron Lake, NY. Which was actually in Western Massachusetts. Whately, Shelburne Falls, Shirley. All much easier to get to as a Mainer.
Today I went on a little road trip. My buddy Jadd came along too. We sat at the same booth Dexter and Kurt shared at the diner.
We sat at the bar in “Iron Lake Tavern” where Dexter spied on Kurt and Molly.
We saw “Iron Lake Police Station” and “Fred’s”
Thankfully, I didn’t end up in a sketchy cabin deep in the woods. 😉
Being a fan is fun. Music, TV, books…whatever. Be a fan. Immerse yourself in those worlds. Dress up. Go to a convention halfway across the country. See the movie several times in theaters. Follow the band. See where your favorite show was filmed. And do so unapologetically. People don’t have to understand it. You don’t need to understand it. As Dexter once said, “Life doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be lived.” Live it up, friends. 💉🩸

Showtime's Dexter was spotted filming at the Whately Diner in Western Massachusetts. Owned by Nouria Energy Corporation, the diner was recognized as one of the top ten diners in the United States in the September 1998 issue of USA Today, appeared in Yankee Magazine, voted 2018 Top Diner in Franklin County, and was featured on “Best of Diners”, a Food Channel special.
