This week we hosted a great group of young adults from the Governor’s Institutes of VT climate science program! We walked the farm and they asked great questions about how weather and climate changes affect every day, and long-term farming in Vermont.
It's no surprise that there are lots of weather related struggles in farming, after all, Mother Nature is our closest co-worker that sometimes seems like she's working against us, no matter how hard you try to befriend her 😅
Patterns change, normal becomes abnormal, and what has worked in the past doesn't always work in the future. The conversation, though relevant and real, can seem quite unappealing, "why would anyone want to farm??"
So when the question came, it was a welcome switch to all the reasons why we still love what we do, despite the challenges.
Being able to make changes, improvements, and start each year anew is high on the list, and having the chance to share honestly and conscientiously raised products directly with those who appreciate them is right up there too.
There are really so many things we love about what we do, that we'd have to host another tour just to get through the list.
So, we stopped there and everyone picked strawberries, which speaks for itself!
