This Pride Month, we have teamed up with local q***r artist to raise money for , a local organization that provides direct aid to q***r Kansans. We hoped to celebrate Pride Month in a way that highlighted the wide diversity of q***r and trans experiences in Kansas.
Each q***r person's experiences and ways of relating in this world are personal and unique. What connects us is our refusal/inability to accept the status quo.
The laws, norms, and underlying structures of modern American society too often fail to account for our natural ways of relating. At the best we are an afterthought for public administration, and at the worst we are seen as a direct and irreconcilable threat to the standards and expectations our country places on all individuals. We believe the answer is not to flatten our idea of q***rness for short term gains that only benefit a handful of q***r people. We believe the answer is to embrace, highlight, and celebrate the ever-growing and ever-evolving ways that q***r people live and thrive. To fight for q***r rights is to fight for food & housing security for all, to fight against racist and ableist policies & institutions, to fight for women's rights, etc. Queerness is expressed within all of these struggles. To fight for all q***r people, therefore, we must fight for the welfare of all. And while this fight can occasionally feel overwhelming and exhausting, it also inspires and motivates.
This idea led us to the creation of Bloom Spiral.
In moments when it is easy to become overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty, the Bloom Spiral instead turns outward toward growth, community, and authentic self-expression. Like roots spreading beneath the soil or flowers breaking through concrete, it reflects the ways q***r and trans people continue to create beauty, connection, and new possibilities for ourselves and each other. Rather than diminishing us, adversity deepens our compassion, strengthens our resolve, and inspires new forms of care, resistance, and becoming.
A portion of the proceeds from each bag will go to Jeni Honeywell (the incredible artist) and to the LGBTQ Foundation of Kansas Mutual Aid Fund.
