A Little Theatre with Your Ice Cream! 🎭🍦
We had the pleasure of hosting Gavin Gilreath and Elijah J. Jones, professional actors touring Iowa schools with The National Theatre for Children (NTC).
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, NTC has been bringing educational theatre to schools across the country since 1978. Their mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire young people through live performances that make important life lessons both engaging and memorable. Their programs are offered free to schools through corporate sponsorships.
Gavin and Elijah are currently traveling throughout Iowa presenting educational programming focused on financial literacy, helping students better understand money and make informed financial decisions.
We had a great visit, learning about their performances, life on the road, and what it's like to work as professional actors. It's always fascinating to hear the stories of the people who find their way through our doors!
Gavin and Elijah, we're so glad you made the Candy Kitchen a stop along your way. We enjoyed our conversation and wish you both continued success as you travel the state, entertaining and educating Iowa's students!

Let’s Send Some Love to Hattie! ❤️

One of the greatest blessings of the Candy Kitchen is the wonderful people who walk through our doors and become more than customers, they become friends.

Our friend Hattie Moore of Moline, Illinois, is certainly one of those special people. Hattie and a group of friends have made several trips to Wilton over the years. They affectionately call themselves the “Golden Girls,” and, of course, they have their “Golden Man” who does the driving!

Recently, Hattie, who is 95 years young, broke her hip and underwent a hip replacement. We’re happy to report that she is doing well and is now spending some time in rehab as she continues to heal.

We thought we could help brighten her days and encourage her recovery. Please leave Hattie a greeting, prayer, encouraging message, or well wish in the comments below. We’ll make sure all of your messages are passed along to her.

Let’s remind Hattie that her friends at the Wilton Candy Kitchen are thinking about her and cheering her on!

We unfortunately had our electricity go off this afternoon, but these customers were fortunate that we purchased an lamp at a garage sale this weekend and so we were able to illuminate their table. It’s been a few years since our Candy Kitchen customers have eaten their ice cream by the light of an oil lamp!

Look Who Visited the Wilton Candy Kitchen... Iowa’s Best Bagger! 🏆

Sometimes a photo gets taken with every intention of sharing it, and then the busyness of summer takes over! Back in March, we had such a fun visit from Karen Fischlein and her friend Kyle Bitterman of Davenport.

Karen grew up here in Wilton and like her sister, Thelma Nopoulos worked here when she was young.

Karen thought Kyle needed a trip to Wilton so she could show off a little piece of her hometown history!

We snapped this picture during their visit but never got around to sharing it. Now we're actually glad we waited, because we have something pretty special to brag about!

Kyle Bitterman is officially Iowa’s Best Bagger! 🛒🏆

Kyle competed against 14 other contestants in the Iowa Best Bagger Contest at the Iowa State Fair on August 14. After three preliminary rounds, the field was narrowed to seven finalists and Kyle finished FIRST!

Along with the title of Iowa Best Bagger, Kyle received a trophy, a $500 prize and a trip for two to Las Vegas, where he will represent Iowa at the National Best Bagger Competition in February 2027!

Congratulations, Kyle! We were happy to have you and Karen as our guests at the Candy Kitchen back in March, but now we'll be able to say that Iowa's Best Bagger has been behind our counter! 😄

Good luck in Las Vegas, Kyle, we'll be cheering for you from Wilton! And Karen, thanks for bringing another new friend our way. ❤️
