There’s something really special happening in these small mountain towns lately… people taking big leaps, pouring their hearts into spaces, and creating places that bring community together one cup of coffee at a time. 🤍

Huge congratulations to our friends, Kim and Dan, on their beautiful new café in Jefferson, New York. We stopped by this week and can confirm: it’s the real deal. Warm vibes, seriously good coffee, homemade bagels, fresh pastries, and the kind of place that instantly feels like part of the community fabric.

I had the smoked salmon on a toasted everything bagel all the way with capers and onions (chef’s kiss) plus a vegan chocolate chip cookie that somehow disappeared in about 1 minute flat. ☕🥯🍪

As small business owners ourselves, we know how much courage, exhaustion, hope, caffeine, and heart goes into opening a place like this. So if you’re driving through the Catskills, make the stop. Support local. Meet your neighbors. Sit a little longer.

Because these are the places that keep small towns alive. 🤍

First real sunny day in the Catskills and Clutch wasted absolutely zero time getting himself to the Batavia Kill. ☀️🌊🐾

Swim.
Take a break.
Back in the water.
Repeat. 😂

We keep him attached to a long rope because once he gets in the water, he has absolutely no interest in coming out. The boy is completely obsessed.

After a long winter, this felt like the official kickoff to mountain season around here. Fresh air, cold river water, sunshine, and a very happy pitbull living his best life. 💜🐾

We want to tell you Clutch’s story and why he’s such an important part of our lives.

In January 2020, I was in Virginia Beach car shopping with my oldest daughter. Emotionally, I was struggling and working through some things I hope nobody ever has to endure.

I had absolutely no intention of getting a dog.

We had just moved into a very small apartment in Manhattan. But when our kids were younger, one thing we always loved to do was visit the dogs at the shelter.

That day, my daughter wanted to go.

We walked in and met Clutch — although his name then was Blu.

He had been surrendered to the shelter at about a year old by a military family and just wasn’t getting adopted.

Then he was adopted by two college kids… which turned out not to be the right fit. They brought him back.

I walked around the shelter and saw him. He looked so sad, but there was something about him — his energy was gentle and heartwarming.

We sat with him for a long time.

Then the shelter manager told us that he had been there for so long they had to keep him on trazodone just to help keep him calm in the shelter environment. (You can see how drugged up they had him). 🤬

Once they told me that, the decision became easy.

We brought him home.

Now Clutch is famous.

Everyone in our neighborhood — in the city and in Windham — knows Clutch.

People stop to say hello. He has become part of our community.

But to us, he’s more than that.

Clutch saved my soul.

And in a lot of ways… it feels like he chose us.

Weekend vibes at Clutch & Throttle 🎸☕️

Justin & Angelo playing guitar, the whole shop singing along, and Nanci and Aryn over at the table coloring like it’s their own little clubhouse. These are the moments we dreamed about when we built this place… good music, good people, coffee in hand, and community happening naturally around us.

The cookies are warm, the espresso is flowing, and the soundtrack tonight is pretty perfect. 🖤
