šŸ Spring is officially here… and the bees are bringing in COLOR 🌸

Take a look at this—see that bright blue patch on the bee’s back leg? That’s pollen!

Bees collect pollen from flowers and pack it into little ā€œbasketsā€ on their legs (called pollen baskets). Most of the time you’ll see yellow or orange… but blue pollen is pretty rare.

šŸ’™ This color often comes from early spring plants like Siberian Squill, Wild Geranium, Phacelia or certain woodland flowers, and you only see it for a short window each year when those blooms are active.

šŸ‘‰ What this means:
• Flowers are starting to bloom
• Bees are finding real food again
• The colony is ramping up for spring

Every one of these tiny pollen loads is protein for baby bees—so this is a big moment for the hive.

After a long winter, things are finally waking up 🌼

šŸŒ¼šŸ Spring is officially here at the hive! šŸšŸŒ¼

For the first time this season, the bees are bringing in bright yellow pollen—nature’s protein source that fuels the next generation of bees.

If you look closely, you’ll see those little golden ā€œsaddlebagsā€ on their legs. That means the queen will soon be ramping up egg-laying, and the colony is starting to grow again after a long winter.

This is one of our favorite signs of the season… things are waking up, flowers are starting to bloom, and the bees are getting back to work.

šŸ Buzz from the Hive – Boston, MA – Late July šŸ

The bees are in peak summer mode! During this week’s inspection, the colonies are showing strong activity, with foragers bringing in nectar from local blooms like milkweed and bee balm, and workers beginning to cap off honey in the upper frames.

Brood patterns looked healthy, and the hive is staying cool and productive despite the summer heat. We’re making small adjustments to give them space and keep things flowing smoothly as they build up honey stores.

Everything is right on track as the bees shift toward preparing for the late-season flow. šŸ
