Fall is here, and the little quince grove to the north of La Posada's ballroom is bursting with the fragrant yellow fruit. The garden crew has been harvesting the fruit and passed off a few crates of quince to Turquoise Room Sous Chef Justine. Justine reports that these quince will find their way into the restaurants famous Fred Harvey inspired pies.

We recently saw two Whippets from Glendale, Arizona relaxing next to their humans in the La Posada foyer. Tatter (foreground) is 10 years old, and Tanner is 5. The La Posada foyer and lobby are dog friendly places that are ideal for having meals from the Turquoise Room with your pet.

This is Carter. He is a 3 year old Chihuahua Poodle mix that was travelling with his human from Los Angeles to Santa Fe. We love dogs at La Posada, and our foyer, lobby and arcade areas have tables where a visitors can have a relaxing meal from the Turquoise with their dog close by.

Winslow Arts Trust Board Member and La Posada tour guide Peggy Nelson recently posed for this image along with Turquoise Room General Manager Johnny Jackson. The image was taken in the foyer arch which leads to the La Posada Trading Post. At the time of the hotel's purchase in 1997 this arch was filled in with a wall and a standard door. The second image is from 2006. At that time Allan Affeldt was contacted by a woman in Scottsdale, AZ who had purchased the original arch back when the hotel closed in 1958. For a time, the hand painted arch door was used as an entrance to a chicken coop in her backyard. Allan purchased the arch doorway and restored it to its original location. When you walk through La Posada, many of the historic features you see have a story like the story for this arch. In a way the revival of La Posada is the sum of these stories and the dedicated work that numerous craftsmen have devoted over a period of decades to this project.

Last week Head Chef Jesus Nunez was handed this box of buried treasure! These are lobster mushrooms that have been freshly picked from the slopes of the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff, Arizona. Chef Jesus will be adding these mushrooms to a number of items on the Turquoise Room menu over the next week.

We were honored to be chosen by historic preservationists Arianna and Ty for their wedding. They are both passionate about history and preservation. Arianna works with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) as their Certified Local Government Coordinator. Of all the historic places in Arizona, Arianna chose La Posada for her special day. Despite torrential rain, Arianna and Ty were determined to have their small ceremony in the Sunken Garden. The clouds broke around 4 pm, staff quickly cleaned the patio and set up, Arianna (wearing a gorgeous 1920s wedding gown) was walked down the aisle by architect father Neil, and she and Ty vowed their love in front of small gathering of friends and family. We wish them a lifetime of happiness!
