On this , we’re looking back at a moment that changed history. On the last Sunday in June 1863, locals stopped Confederate troops from crossing into Lancaster County and advancing toward Harrisburg and Philadelphia by burning the covered bridge spanning the Susquehanna River. Just three days later, the Battle of Gettysburg erupted.
📜 In a letter to her husband General Thomas Welsh, Annie Welsh offers a fascinating glimpse into that pivotal moment in our region’s history and the people who lived through it.
