Our History

Legend has it, that many years ago, the tug boat Portland slowly wound it’s way up the Cousins River. Its destination was Yarmouth, and its purpose was to provide a place for good food, drinks, and hospitality. A harsh Nor’ Easter besieged the boat at its mooring and strong winds grounded and overturned her at our restaurant's current location.

Although the Portland may be gone, its spirit still lives on in this historic spot on Route 1. We honor that spirit by continuing to provide our guests with great local Maine seafood, local beers, and handcrafted cocktails. So come see us at the “Rudder”, as locals call it, and enjoy our famous Maine hospitality that we have been providing since 1976.
