Last of the equipment is gone as of 4:30 this afternoon. Two days to finish cleaning. A good way to spend your 42nd anniversary. I did treat the princess to lunch - cost me $17 for the both of us. Told her in no uncertain terms to not get used to this extravagant spending. That's the most I've spent on her in the last 42 - she doesn't need to think it will be repeated every year. But I guess it is my fault - if I just wasn't so darn considerate!

Happy Birthday to Carolyn Taylor - a good friend who helped us with our catering from the start. Happy Birthday Carolyn!!!!!!!

Auction House coming this morning for the last load of items from the Diner. I'm beginning to think I'm getting the short end of the deal. I was most concerned about my big Christmas Card - didn't know whether to throw it away or find a new home for it. Luckily it is now with a new owner who promised to take care of it. In the meantime - I noticed the Princess carefully wrapped her "magic wand" and tucked it away in her green tote. I was also informed that when I'm done with the broom it's hers and it is going home with her. I'm just wondering and now living in fear of her future plans. ( I do wonder why I have to take the broom with me - makes more sense for her to fly it home.)

We have a change of plans - our last day will be this Friday May 20. Didn't take into account ordering and delivery cycle. Thanks!!

05/15/2022

Starting early today - first of all a note of thanks for the prayers and concerns about my post last week - thinking it over I should have prefaced it by saying it had nothing to do with the health of either one of us. Our mail was a certified letter from the landlord - Lepi Realty - letting us know our lease is not going to be renewed - and since June's rent was already paid we have until June 30 vacate the premises and return the keys to them. We have already contacted an auctioneer and are planning to keep the Diner open with Friday May 27 being the last day. We'll need June to get everything organized and cataloged for the auction - date to yet be set.

We knew this time would come - it's just moving the items on the bucket list up several spaces. I have my list and the princess has lots on hers - I think what is so disappointing about the whole process is Lepi's using the mail to let us know. I would have thought the most professional way would have been to come and talked to us about it. But then I went back through y notes I've had since October of 2014 when Lepi's took over the lease on the Freight Shops. We asked to get the thermostat moved from right by the entry/exit door to a more secure location. That was October of 2014 - this is May of 2022 and the thermostat has never been moved. I have to have one of the smartest sisters - when we started leasing her advice to me was "take notes - write it down".

So that's what we'll be doing - getting everything ready - and - if anyone would like to see my notebook of everything I've made notes of - let me know - I have it with me every day.

Thanks for your continuing support and here's for all of us having better weeks ahead!

The Diner is closed for the rest of the week - The Mrs. and I got some interesting mail - we need some time to think and regroup. Watch for the menu Sunday - sorry for any inconvenience.

05/08/2022

We're open Monday - Soup and Sandwiches - also have Ham Salad.

Closed Tuesday and Wednesday - Jury Duty or the possibility of on Tuesday and catering Wednesday. Watch FB for the menu for the rest of week soon.

You are probably concerned about Princess and Mother's Day - well - I had her day all planned out but when we got home from Sunday School and grocery - something came over me. Don't know what happened - whether it was caused by some of the meds I take or what but I ended up cooking out - the only thing the princess had to do was put her feet under the table. But don't worry - I told her not to expect this kind of treatment next year. I have only so many nice attacks, and as you all know, they run out pretty fast.

Thanks for your continuing support - here's for all of us having a good week ahead!

05/01/2022

Early start for me - notice we're closed Monday - we'll be cleaning - that is one of us will be working while the other one supervises. I would invite you to come but I only have enough cleaning supplies for the Princess. Maybe some of you don't know that there is an art to supervision - got to know when and how to push your cleaning crew or in this case person. I've been taking tips from some of the customers like Mike - Bruce and Herb so I'm anxious to use their tips. I mean - if something goes wrong can she get any more upset with me? I intend to gently point out the areas on the floor she missed and I won't have her go over them again unless I not happy with the way they look.

Well - that's enough about Princess - I know you are interested in hearing about me. Mentioned to the doctor that I'm having some difficulty turning my head to the right - to the point where looking for oncoming traffic is starting to cause full upper body turning, I told him it was cased by marital stress ( which didn't seem to impress him). So until it gets better I need to apologize to anyone who is driving behind us. The princess is riding shot gun and letting me know when it's "OK" I swear, some mornings it must be like being behind Laurel and Hardy - the way the van is jerking. She's watching out for me and I'll hear " not now - wait a minute - Ok my way." That works most of the time but I have learned not to start off right away because some of the time I hear -' not now - wait a minute - all clear my way (and then there is a 5 second pause ) after this red car."
'
So that's the way it is. I continue to keep her because some of the same customers I've checked with told me it's too late to train another one. Guess their right.

Lets hope May warms up some more - really want to end the furnace season. Here's hoping we all have a good week ahead - thanks for your continuing business.

Sitting here wondering if I should vent or not - maybe I should just look out the window every now and then and enjoy the beautiful day. One thing for sure is I need to apologize for last week - no printed menu and trying to find specials to put on FB was - needless to say - useless. Had an order ready for our Food Supplier and when the rep came she wanted to know if they had called us and let us know the minimum delivery order was increased from $150.00 to $250.00. I don't have the space to store stock like that and I decided I wasn't going to spend that amount just to get the one item I needed. So between Deciding what we could and had to do we made it through - hopefully things will settle down - for as you know - I am the easiest person to get along with - if you have doubts - just ask the Princess.

It is nice to see the greening of the spaces across the street from the kitchen window - the gentle hum of the people mowing those spaces and then the trains going through. Have been asking the Princess when I might hear the gentle hum of the mower at our house and I get answered with the meanest look. Don't know what the problem is - I bought her a new mower last year. Maybe she thinks of the mower as she does the sweeper in the house - if I don't run them they'll last longer. Sometimes I just don't understand - she has time between the loads of laundry - it not like she has to stay with the washer through each cycle. It does what it is supposed to do as long as she remembers to put the clothes in it!

We did notice earlier when we had warmer weather the neighbor's yard looked to be covered about half with purple crocus. Now when we get home and come out of the garage our one side of the yard is blue with violets. Have never had them so thick before! We always had violets in the yard at home growing up - then one time at my aunt and uncle's farm my dad saw some yellow violets - well - they ended up in our yard too. Later on a Sunday we took a ride up to Sugarcreek and dad saw some white violets near the restaurant we stopped to eat - talked to the people and after that there were blue, yellow and white violets in the yard at 1112. Always think about my dad this time of year - I've talked about it before - saving jars to fill with flowers for Memorial Day and visiting all the cemeteries where family members are. I can remember the route but by the time I get in Woodlawn I can never remember where Adam and Annie Reed are buried.

I think I'd better leave now - I hear the Princess in the kitchen - she is either reciting the witch scene from MacBeth or working on supper - just like Christmas at our home all the time - you don't know what you're in for!

Thanks for your continuing business and here's for all of us to have a much better weekend ( I really wanted to say gooder but my older sister reads this post and sends me corrections) than what we just ( done did) have.
