Costa Maya is awesome!
I’m biased because I live here but here are some locals tips!
The downtown beach boardwalk area is lined with little beach restaurants and shops.
You can walk the pedestrian only area and freely access beach throughout downtown.

The little restaurants and beach clubs vary a lot in types of loungers, washrooms, WiFi strength, menu à la carte or all inclusive etc… reserve in advance or come down and see them first and pick one - go on Google Maps or trip advisor to get latest photos and reviews.
There are a constant flow of taxis that go back and forth to port that’s only 2 miles away.
Very safe area of Mexico and quick to back to ship on time even with 4 ships. If there’s a line just go out towards main gate there will be tons more, downtown if there’s a wait just go to next block down.
The roads from the port to town just had some major construction so now smooth pavement for a quicker ride!
Everywhere takes USD cash but as it’s a remote area and there is no bank will be easier if you bring smaller bills so you don’t have to wait for change. Also the currency exchanges here don’t accept damaged ripped bills etc so try to bring good ones. Many places will take credit cards but cash is preferred.
Places will take credit cards as well, transactions usually in Mexican pesos and your bank will do the conversion- download a currency app like XE before your cruise to check all the exchange rates of the countries you are going to on your cruise so you k ow what to expect.
Cafe Jaguar has FREE Starlink high speed WiFi so a great place to stop in to get cold drinks - all made with purified ice and authentic tacos during the day while catching up on your social media!
