Ouma Isie's Tea Garden was built in 1976 as a memorial for Isie K Krige the wife of General Jan Smuts. She was a remarkable woman who spoke 8 lanuages with a wide range of interests. As prime minister's wife she became world famous because of her dedication to the Gifts and Comforts Fund, raising millions of pounds for South African troops during WW2. She became known as "Ouma" under the troops of

the Common Wealth, a name she cherished. The tea garden is affiliated with the Smuts House Museum to preserve the legacy of General Jan Smuts and his wife Isie K Krige.
