There’s a tale often told around Waxy O’Connor’s about a fellow named Paddy who swore he’d only stop in for one quick pint after work.

“Well,” said Paddy, “I’ll have a single draught and be on my way.”

Two hours later, he was still perched happily at the bar, surrounded by old friends, new friends, and at least three people he couldn’t quite remember meeting.

You see, that’s the trouble with Waxy’s. The fresh Castle Tank Beer pours a little too smoothly, the Castle Lite is crisp and refreshing, the Castle Double Malt goes down far too easily, and the After Graft Special from 4pm to 6pm is a little too tempting at just R35 for a 500ml draught.

One minute you’re escaping the office. The next, you’re debating rugby, solving the world’s problems, and listening to stories that somehow become more impressive with every round.

From the shining copper tanks and perfectly poured draughts to the warm welcome waiting at the door, Waxy’s has a way of turning a quick stop into a grand evening.
