Tiny bees, extraordinary achievements.

Did you know the average honey bee produces just 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its entire lifetime? Yet together, a colony creates something truly remarkable.

It takes around 556 worker bees visiting 2 million flowers to produce just 2.2 kg of honey. On every foraging trip, a single bee pollinates 50–100 flowers, helping nature thrive with every flight.

Did you know bees can taste with their feet?

Before they even take a sip of nectar, a honey bee "tests" the flower using tiny sugar receptors on its feet. If the nectar is sweet enough, it extends its proboscis and starts feeding.

Did you know a Cape honey bee has five eyes?

Two large compound eyes help them spot flowers, navigate their surroundings, and detect movement, while three tiny eyes on the top of their head sense light and help keep them steady in flight.

Even more fascinating? Bees can see ultraviolet patterns on flowers, nature's very own landing guides, but they can't see the colour red!

These incredible little pollinators are perfectly designed for the important work they do every day, helping our gardens, crops, and ecosystems thrive.

The Cape Honey Bee (Apis mellifera capensis) is found only in South Africa and is perfectly adapted to the unique landscapes of the Western and Eastern Cape.

These incredible bees are vital pollinators, helping our fynbos flourish and supporting the crops that feed our communities. They also produce the honey, beeswax, and propolis that inspire so many of Simply Bee's natural products.
