Every year the world continues to get more and more crowded. While we’ve a tendency to pack ourselves into massive cities, and there are presently still long open stretches of countryside, every year that gets whittled away at more and more.

The power and food needs of the world continue to place a greater and greater strain on our ability to meet them, and resources in general are becoming harder and harder to come by.

World Population Day comes along each year to remind us that our present rate of population growth is unsustainable, and the present social and logistical issues we are experiencing to meet the demand of that population will only get worse if we don’t do something.

⚠️ALERT: PUMPS AT NEWTON RESERVOIRS OFF DUE TO CABLE FAULT

Water Supply Impact: Water supply to Kimberley's suburbs will be affected due to pumps at the Newton Reservoirs being switched off following damage to a power cable.

A contractor accidentally damaged a cable at the Reservoir, resulting in a power failure.

The Electrical Department has been notified, and repair work is underway.

Expected Impact: Low water pressure to no water in high-lying areas.

We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate residents' patience while repairs are completed.

⚠️ALERT: TEMPORARY POWER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION – VERWOERD PARK (DIEDERICK, HOWIE AND BRENNAN AND SURROUNDING STREETS)

The Sol Plaatje Municipality hereby informs residents of Verwoerd Park's Brennan, Howie, Diederick, and possibly other surrounding streets of the power outage and efforts to restore supply.

* Our electrical team has identified the fault and is currently collecting the required materials from the municipal store to carry out the repairs.

* Electricity supply will be restored immediately once the fault has been repaired.

We extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and appreciate residents' patience and understanding.
