Some (including me!) gingerly approach or attempt Vindaloo, and for a long time this dish has had a not so positive rep!

Exploring my spice blends I chose to delve into this one as its origin is interesting, and when recipe testing, I very quickly warmed up it.
It sends your tastebuds on quite a ride with the combination of heat and tang, and tenderness and richness of the protein.

I highly recommend giving it a go, especially if you are an adventurous cook!

My food journey began at the age of 13 when my interest in baking was sparked, spending time in the kitchen with my aunt’s on a Sunday afternoon...

Fast forward 20 odd years on, my love and interest for cooking far surpassed that of baking, and I indulge in every moment I spend in the kitchen.

Off Indian descent, growing up in an Indian community, curry was (and still is) a staple. In the last 6 years my curiousity in Indian spices have flourished, and that is where my Indian Spice Blending Masterclass was born, and subsequent food ventures began.

0 1 1 | s r i l a n k a n b l a c k m a s a l a This masala is a fragrant blend of spices that gets its heat (pungency) from black pepper, and fresh flavour from coriander, fennel and curry leaf. For those that like spice, without the heat, this blend is perfect.

I would be doing a complete disservice if I didn't blend a masala tea with Rooibos, indigenous to the Western Cape. Apart from the beautiful fragrance, and sweet, floral flavour that compliments the warm spices, this tea has endless health benefits.

Hi Everyone!

With the days becoming cooler, I am excited to reintroduce my Indian Spice Blending Masterclass.
I am based in Woodstock, and the classes take place in my home.
I can accomodate up to 4 guests per class.

Part of my class is about learning to blend Indian spices, and cooking with them. We also enjoy a 2 course Indian meal which we cook together.

There are so many variations of masala tea, or masala chai, as it is culturally know...spices vary home to home, palate to palate....but one thing remains....the warm fragrances fill your home when brewing a pot of this blend, and the spices not only warm and nourish your body...but your soul too...

Off Indian descent, pickled fish was something I was introduced to only after moving to Cape Town.
This dish and tradition of eating at Easter with Hot Cross Buns has not yet grown on me…however, I’ve learnt how to make it!

My client, The Grocer at Local, in Heritage Square, asked me to develop my version of the Pickled Fish spice blend, which I of course took on…and even if I may say so myself…turned out well!!

It was interesting using my Indian spice blends as the base of the blend, together with sweet, fragrant all spice (Pimento) and dark, warm clove.

This spice blend will be sold annually, 1 month before Easter.

I find it really facinating how different the fragrance and taste of fresh coriander (leaf) and coriander seed, are so so different…one couldn't tell that they are related, unlike fennel seed and it's plant.
Coriander has a lovley mild citrus note, and forms the base of many Indian spice blends. It is also largely used in gin distillery and beer brewing.
