Situated in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, in the foothills of the Drakensburg mountains, Brahman Hills has undergone an extensive renovation since its days as the old Windmills Hotel. The new Brahman Hills team has grown and developed at the same time as the property through a complete facelift in 2015, to create a country home

away from home that promises real experiences, with real people in the tranquil surroundings. Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Midlands, yet just a stone’s throw away from the N3 Highway, Brahman Hills is easily accessible and central to the famous Midlands Meander. And with either hotel or self-catering accommodation available, together with a range of noteworthy facilities, including a restaurant, coffee bar, cellar and underground lounge/bar, as well as a variety of eventing venues seating up to 400 people, Brahman Hills is now a destination of choice for those looking for the perfect wedding and conference venue or idyllic country escape. We are proud to be one of only two official Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Partner Gardens in South Africa and honored to have been named Overseas Regional Winner in the 2023 RHS Partner Garden of the Year competition. A ribbon of purple woven through the Sanctuary 💜

These purple ribbons will take root in the heart of the Serenity Garden… woven into the land, Salvia a name drawn from the Latin salvare, meaning “to heal” or “to save,” quietly echoing the intention behind our planting vision.

Within the Serenity Garden’s planting vision, salvias will bring colour, movement and life to the experience. Their violet drifts will soften pathways and guide movement through the landscape, while their gentle sway in the Midlands breeze adds rhythm and calm to every walk. More than a visual layer, they will become a vital nectar source — drawing bees, butterflies and other pollinators, strengthening the garden’s living ecosystem and cycles of renewal.

There’s a quiet kind of richness in this dish, the kind that unfolds slowly, bite by bite. Spiced aubergine and chickpeas are simmered into a creamy Kashmiri curry, layered with gentle warmth and aromatic depth. It’s served alongside herbed basmati rice, crisp poppadom, traditional sambal, and a sprinkle of toasted coconut that brings a soft, nutty finish.

Some pathways lead the way and guide us closer to nature ✨

A new pathway is emerging through one of the Serenity Garden’s most sensitive and beautiful landscapes.

This gently flowing timber boardwalk will wind through the wetland between the African Art Museum and the Meditation Mound, allowing guests to experience the area while protecting the fragile ecosystem beneath. Elevated above the ground, it preserves natural water flows, wetland vegetation, and habitat,
ensuring that access and conservation go hand in hand.

Like much of the Serenity Garden, the design follows the rhythms of nature: soft curves, careful placement, and a light touch on the land.
