FESTIVE BLEND V7 ❄️

Our mid year release, most commonly referred to as Festive in July which gives you the profile of “a blend that doesn’t taste like a blend” 😉

For this version we blended 2 equal parts of very high quality (and altitude) Ethiopian and Kenyan coffees to give you a cup that is complex, vibrant and comforting AT THE SAME TIME 🥹😋

As always this one works in all of the brewing methods and we’ll dive into more detail in the explainer video soon. Remember that this is only available for the month of July, if you miss it you’ll have to wait for V8 in December!

KENYA KIAMWANGI NATURAL 🇰🇪

Hello Untitled 77! The feedback was quiet on this one BUT we know that you guys would not have guessed it 👀

Why? This is (technically) our first Natural processed Kenya 🤩

We bought this lot from kamavindicoffee but the coffee comes from from Kiamwangi Factory, part of the Iriaini Farmers’ Cooperative Society in the Mathira region of Nyeri. It is the usual SL28, SL34, Batian varietal combo which often leads to a “”classic”” cup of Kenya!

Natural processed coffees are not very common in Kenya, so this is quite the treat. Although there is slightly more heavier fruits and mouthfeel coming from this coffee, it’s not lost the features that make Kenyan coffees special 💪🏼

The guys have just got back from a week trip to Antwerp and Brussels ✈️ 🇧🇪

left us feeling inspired, challenged, humbled and motivated to make CEDAR even better 💪🏽 This is the first time attending the event as a team and will not be the last!

We spent some time at the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros (in colab with Top Of The Crop) and Eversys booth brewing espresso and filters ☕️

We caught up with new and old friends from abroad but also ran into some local faces and some that are doing big things abroad! 💪🏽 🇿🇦

In between Expo days we fitted in some cafe visits, more cycling AND WE BRAAIED (thanks Jean Heylen Personal)! 🥩🔥

Leigh and Winston have both settled into the HOT weather in Antwerp and have been sluuurping away at cuppings, connecting with the wider team, visiting cafes and roasteries for some R&D, and clocking km’s on the bike (might have to start a CEDAR cycle after this trip 🚲😅) !

Today they got to cup coffees from of GREEN HILLS COFFEE 🪴SPECIALTY COFFEE with the Top Of The Crop & 32Cape team. Having the producer in the room while cupping added a refined connection to the cup experience and the guys gained insights and context cupping fly coffees still in parchment (pergamino as they’ve learned) 🧐

Notable mention goes to our new friend Oliver from Andy Roasters for the great service and coffee this morning 👊🏽☕️

Due to popular demand (and mid year snow in JHB a few years back!) we now release our infamous Festive Blend in July and December!

This Festive Blend gives us the opportunity to play and blend coffees that are typically used as single origin to create “”a blend that doesn’t taste like a blend”” where the whole is greater that the sum of it’s parts 💪🏼

Cedar Fives is now going INTERNATIONAL 🌍 🤩

For the month of June our monthly 5 aside will be held in Antwerp, Belgium next week and co-hosted with our good friends and partners Top Of The Crop!

Our intention with this program has always been about more than just a kick around with some friends once a month, it’s been about fostering connection and building community outside the roastery and the cafe space with a common language - FOOTBALL ⚽

Leigh and Winston will be attending in Brussels next week and we thought it would be fitting, given that it’s FIFA World Cup, to host a game!

Stiek uit if you are around and share it with your friends if not. We already have some Bafana representatives and a few Belgians (of all ages) signed up. Rumour has it there might be a Swede joining and potentially a couple of Brazilians and Colombians 🇿🇦🇧🇪🇸🇪🇨🇴🇧🇷

A slower day, a warm coffee, and a bit of time to chat ☕

Winter has a way of changing the pace around the store. People stay a little longer, coffees get a little bigger, and conversations tend to drift beyond “just the usual.”

No complaints from our side 🙂
