TWTW: The Week That Was at Sunny Street
Yes, I know it’s Monday, but between welcoming a brand new member to our household, managing some behind the scenes cafe renovations, and getting my son ready for his Year 12 formal, I haven't had a spare second. But here it is!
Let’s get real. The headline news this week is officially welcoming Boston, our brand new little puppy. We picked him up on Friday, and he is now the official Sunny St mascot. I mean, come on, how cute is he? He is just a little ball of fluff spreading love wherever he goes. He might be lucky enough to get a cuddle at the cafe when he comes up for short visits, so expect plenty of puppy spam. Sorry, not sorry!
Let’s get down to business and talk coffee first, because that’s really what we’re here for, right? Mr Cappuccino actually outsold Mr Flat White last week, and I already knew that was going to happen because the sheer volume of cappuccinos we made was ridiculous. We went through three whole bags of chocolate powder, which is a massive amount. Trust me on that! As a result, Abby, Sky, and I are still all completely covered in chocolate dust. It's not a bad thing for later on though, if you get a bit hungry you can just lick it off!
Surprisingly, our iced teas, specifically the lychee iced tea, were incredibly popular last week despite the cold weather. I think it must be a trend with the younger crowd, similar to their love for iced lattes.
In our gluten-free range, the maple pecan blondie completely sold out in just two days. That is a lot of blondie, everyone! The macadamia caramel tarts were not far behind either.
And with absolutely no surprises here, the Sunny McMuffin was once again our number one best-selling savoury food item. I think I am going to start making them in my sleep before long. If you know, you know!
That random photo of the outback scenery out past Ipswich and Boonah way was from my drive to collect Boston from the breeder. It really is a whole other world out there, and everything is so incredibly brown at the moment. We are so spoilt with the green landscapes on the coast that we sometimes forget what it’s like out there.
In renovation news, I have been a bit slack with posting daily updates because we have just been far too busy. However, we managed to knock out the old window containing that 300-year-old air conditioner and replaced it with a sheet of shatterproof plain glass. It lets so much beautiful light into the new kitchen area. It is incredibly exciting, and there will be a lot more happening with the Reno this week. I will give you another update at the end of the week.
We had customers doing little dances as usual, and it was wonderful to see that more and more ladies of Sandgate, and now the gentlemen of Sandgate too, have been visiting the cafe, sitting down together, laughing, and just enjoying each other's company.
In staff news, Miss Abby returned with her big trademark smile and a bit of a tan after her little holiday. Mr Lucas has been working hard behind the scenes and on the floor during his school holidays, and Miss Skye wore her beautiful sparkle headband this week. She and I are currently having a daily earring-off where we compete to see who is wearing the best earrings of the day, so make sure you take notice next time you come in to visit.
It was an expensive week with our display that I inherited finally lost the plot and gave up on life such as the life of earning a business though.
The other random photos show our cinnamon doughnut cookies, which are absolutely incredible when warmed up for about 20 seconds in the microwave, making them perfect to pair with a coffee or a big hot chocolate. You can also see our new gluten-free pineapple raspberry cakes.
