We have never made a post like this before.
However, after a recent incident at our Secret Harbour venue, we feel it is important to speak up.
A group of teenagers entered the café and took slushies and drinks without paying, in full view of our staff members.
When approached, their behaviour was disrespectful and intimidating.
They mocked staff, made inappropriate physical contact, and showed little regard for the impact their actions were having on those around them.
The situation escalated to the point where our team felt unsafe and locked the venue’s doors while the incident was unfolding.
Most concerning of all, this was not the first time this group has been involved in this type of behaviour.
The matter has been reported to Police, and CCTV footage has been provided. Should further incidents occur, we will continue to pursue all available legal avenues to protect our staff, customers, and business.
At Surfing Lizard, we work hard to create a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Our team members, many of whom are young employees themselves, deserve to come to work without fear of harassment, intimidation, or abuse.
We appreciate the support of our community and ask that everyone treat hospitality workers with the respect they deserve.
