Five years ago, Fresh Food Matters started with a simple idea and a small table at our local farmers market.
After a restaurant I was working in closed, I wasn’t sure what the next chapter would look like. What I did know was that I loved food, creativity, and feeding people. The farmers market became the place where Fresh Food Matters was born. Every week we tried new dishes, new flavours, and new ideas. Our community kept coming back, ready to try whatever we created next.
Then came a big leap.
One week into the pandemic, we opened our first brick-and-mortar shop on Main Street. It was a small, cozy space, and the support from our community was incredible. By day three we had completely sold out of food and had to close briefly just to regroup and make more.
As we continued to grow, we quickly realized we needed more space, better parking, and easier access for customers. In year three, we moved to our current location in the mall, completely gutting a storefront and building the Fresh Food Matters space you see today.
Over the last five years, Fresh Food Matters has grown into more than just a place to grab lunch. We’ve become a restaurant, a catering company, and a provider of meal solutions for families, events, and workplaces across our region.
And the next chapter is just beginning.
We’re excited to soon be introducing our Green Goddess Hummus+ and Signature Honey Herb Salad Dressing into retail, with hopes of reaching shelves across Nova Scotia and eventually beyond. There are some exciting things ahead for Fresh Food Matters.
