A few snaps from private dining at Fortuna’s Row this past weekend.

For a special evening, Chef Mikko Tamarra and his team stepped beyond our regular menu, creating a series of custom dishes that explored the depth, complexity, and remarkable range of Latin American cuisine. Thoughtful compositions, unexpected ingredients, and the kind of cooking that comes from equal parts curiosity, technique, and a genuine love of feeding people well.

Our private dining room offers a different side of Fortuna’s Row. An intimate setting where the menu can be shaped around the occasion, the kitchen has room to explore, and dinner becomes something entirely its own. We believe some of the city’s most memorable dining experiences happen around a single table, with good company and a kitchen given the freedom to create.

Our current cocktail menu takes us through the different regions of Mexico, exploring the ingredients, spirits, traditions, and histories that make each one distinct. From familiar flavours to things you may never have encountered, every drink has a story behind it, and our bartenders are more than happy to tell it.

At Fortuna’s Row, every cocktail begins with research, experimentation, and a fair amount of tasting. A good cocktail takes a few minutes to make. Getting it onto our menu takes considerably longer. Nothing makes the list without a little curiosity, a lot of testing, and a good reason for being there.

Pull up a seat at the bar, ask a few questions, and explore what we’ve been working on. There’s plenty to discover.

Taco Omakase returns to Fortuna’s Row on November 1st. Eleven courses, one evening, and a rather different way to experience the humble taco.

Led by Chef Mikko Tamarra and the Fortuna’s Row kitchen, Taco Omakase is our exploration of Mexican flavours, ingredients, and techniques, presented through a series of inventive, carefully considered tacos. Some familiar, some a little unexpected, and all designed to be enjoyed one after another.

Costilla. Slow-braised short rib, finished with a tamarind glaze that brings together sweetness, acidity, and a little richness. Served alongside sweet corn polenta and bok choy, with just enough contrast to keep you going back for another bite.

Set inside a 100-year-old concrete building, with 24-foot ceilings, towering live plants, warm light, and the energy of Latin America running through the room, Fortuna’s Row was built to feel a little removed from Calgary. It’s big, dramatic and transportive, without losing the intimacy of a great dinner.

Add food from the live-fire grill, cocktails inspired by Latin America, a bottle of w**e and nowhere particularly urgent to be. There’s nowhere else quite like it in the city. Reserve online, or walk in whenever you fancy an escape from the ordinary.

There’s something about steak at the centre of the table that sets the tone for the evening. At Fortuna’s Row, much of the menu is built around the idea of sharing. Steaks from the live-fire grill, plates passed back and forth, a bottle of w**e opened for the table, and dinner allowed to take its time.

We’re deep into the next iteration of the Fortuna’s Row menu, where new dishes are cooked, adjusted, reconsidered, and occasionally sent back to the drawing board entirely.

Over the next little while, some of those ideas will make their way into the dining room as features. A chance for us to test what we’ve been working on, and for you to get an early taste of where the menu is headed.

Some will stay. Some will evolve. That’s part of the fun. Stay tuned, and keep an eye on the features.

Behind the bar at Fortuna’s Row, we’ve collected spirits from across Latin America: agave, sugarcane and corn distillates, regional liqueurs, bitters and bottles that don’t always fit neatly into a category. Some are bright and grassy, others smoky, earthy, funky or wonderfully strange.

They give our bartenders a lot to play with, and help us make cocktails that feel distinctly ours. Latin-inspired, built with a sense of place, and hopefully a little different from what you drank last weekend.

At Fortuna’s Row, groups of up to 20 can gather around our Harvest Table in the main dining room, or settle into the Private Dining Room for something a little more intimate. The menus are built for sharing, the table is meant to fill up, and there is rarely any danger of leaving hungry.

Contemporary Latin American cooking, plenty of w**e, and one of Calgary’s most distinctive rooms, right on the riverfront. Tapatía. A Paloma, reconsidered. Patrón Silver and yuzu sake meet grapefruit and lime, with St-Germain smoothing things out and ube bringing a little depth. Soursop soda finishes it off, force-carbonated for a crisp, persistent fizz.

Bright, tropical and deceptively easy to drink. Named for the women of Jalisco, Tapatía carries a little of that same energy: confident, colourful and full of life. Now pouring at Fortuna’s Row.
