Today we played... Toy Battle (2 players, 15 mins, Ages 8+)!

Toy Battle is a frantic area control game, where players compete to score victory points or destroy the enemy base. Each player has the same tiles in their stack, but only a few in hand, making this quick strategy game about making the best decisions available with limited resources.

We really liked how Toy Battle really boiled the lane battler genre from video games (League of Legends and DOTA, for example) into an accessible board game. Definitely give this one a try. :-)

Taco Puck Maple Syrup Canoe is the Canadian version of the modern classic Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, celebrating all sorts of things that make Canada great! Race to get rid of your cards while calling out the name of the game, but watch out - matching a word with a card means you need to slap the deck quickly to avoid picking up the whole stack!

Today we played... Get Bit! (3-6 players, 20 mins, Ages 7+)

In Get Bit, you take the role of a member of a pirate crew that didn't *quite* make it to shore. There is no choice but to swim for it through shark infested waters!

In every round of this bluffing game, every player chooses a card to move, but duplicates cancel each other out. The player at the back of the line loses a limb until only one player makes it to shore!

The plastic pirates with removable limbs add real stakes to this quick little card game. Watching your pirate's limbs dwindling really pushes the tension and the laughs. A great family game.
